It looks like I live out in the middle of nowhere, but I am within 35 miles to a fairly large city - Louisville KY. So I have the best of both worlds. |

Close to Oregon State University. Surrounding towns, Albany, Lebanon, have pools. Roads are flat with practically no traffic. On yesterdays run, saw four bald eagles and a fox. Once you say you are near a univeristy or your town actually HAS a Y, you little town looks cosmopolitain by comparison. But I think I am finally tapping into a group of people with similar interests. the local bike shop guy was happy to learn there was a swimmer in town now (me) because there was a quad race (road bike-swim-run-mtn bike) for which they had no swimmer for their team a few years ago. It was a mile open water swim.

Doesn't sound small until you realize it's the second largest city in the entire state and over twice as large as the 3rd place city. It's also 6+ hours to the next town of substance. The funniest thing, as i scrolled down I saw the column that read "races in Rapid City, SD" and suddenly got excited that they were listing some local events. Then I saw they were talking about Ethnicity instead. I spend way too much time here |

Wow, that is crazy! I live less than 178 miles from New York City, Philly, Baltimore, and DC...not to mention all the places in between that are large enough to classified as a city. I couldn't imagine being where you are. My town only has 20,000 people...kinda small for my immediate area, but there are small towns not too far from here. I like that we have LOTS to do close by, though. I always tell everyone that NJ is the best place to live, whether in the northern or southern part of the state (although I prefer Southern). You can make a day trip to aforementioned cities, plus the beach or the mountains (skiing in winter, hiking and rafting in summer), not to mention that you can shop around for different airports when flying somewhere. I could go on and on, but I don't want to hijack. |

We have 3 McDonalds all within a mile of each other a Home Depot next to a Lowes, Giant Grocery store next to a Super Wal-Mart, 4 Subways, a church on every street corner as well as a bar. Joe Paterno, Cal Ripken Jr, and Johnny Unitas are gods. We love potato chips and pretzels by having Utz's, Wege's, Revonah, and Snyder's all in this small town. Getting a Red Lobster in Hanover was the biggest thing since paved roads and everyone spends their weekends going to and watching high school sports. |

I grew up in Millersville, PA in the next county over. Fresh pretzels..... YUM. Utz - the reason the gods (not the gods you named, but I may be wrong) made potatoes. Winnemucca is getting super walmart - the whole county only has 14000 people! |

Largest city is about 15 miles from me and is around 20,000. That's where the Y is and the only pool in the county (except for a few small hotel pools at the interstate interchanges). Diane |

I went from a City with a popultion of 650 000 folks to a small and isolated place called Shamattawa. Where's that you say. Look at a map of Manitoba Canada. It is up by Hudson Bay. It is actually about 90 kms south of Hudson Bay and 50 Kms west of Ontario. The middle of nowhere!!!!!! Population on a good day - 750. With was land locked and a 1 hour and 30 minute bush plane (biggest plane was a 10 seater!!!!) ride to the nearest city with a population over 10 000. I upgraded to a Village of 750 population with a city of 9000 only 58kms away. now, I am in the City of 9000. Heading south....gotta love it. |
