Subject: RE: Brain TeaserF150TPA - 2006-03-21 2:34 PM Because in a linear sense one could still look at the toothbrush and measure it to be 5' tall...or wide...or long...whatever. 5' measurement is what counts. Encase that 5' long toothbrush in a 4'x3' case, and now, even though there is a linear measurement involved (5' diagonal), the length of said case is now only 4'. Look at your screen. Diagonal measurement of say a 19" monitor. It is neither as long nor as wide as it is diagonally (mine measures about 12x15) . But if you had a 19" toothbrush in a 12" by 15" box, you'd not know that what's inside it was 19". Does that make sense??? If you want to get that technical then how could a toothbrush 5' tall fit in a box with a 5' diagonal measurement? Is it a flat picture of a toothbrush? Does it not have width and depth? Girth, if you will? Since I didn't want to get into that, I'm sticking with the "spirit" of the idea and that is that what she posted (my answer too, she typed faster) is basically the same thing presented a different way. She did the same thing just without the box. See, we don't just think outside the box, we think without it! |
