Of course there are chicken little types now saying that everyone will be printing firearms but I really doubt it. A really good descriptive article lays out how they really just printed the lower of the AR and not the entire firearm. I failed to correctly link the pages but here they are: 3D printer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_printing Article http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/133514-the-worlds-first-3d-printed-gun Edited by Big Appa 2012-12-05 10:43 AM |

![]() | ![]() I saw this machine at a community college next-door to the Ruger plant in Prescott, AZ. Really cool, but not really some ground-breaking thing. Machinists would still need to check the precision so the weapon didn't blow up and kill the shooter. The community college also has a full gunsmith class that has a <50% pass rate because the cross between the art and the technical aspects wash-out a lot of folks. |

I don't think this is groundbreaking. |

I'd say that the idiots would likely not go to the level of designing a firearm that could be printed on a million dollar 3D printer. Just sayin I might be missing something, but I don't think the "idiots" in question are buying million dollar 3D printers to make their OWN guns. H&K, Glock, Colt, etc are buying the million dollar machines (or some black market operation), and cranking out tons of cheap guns for the "idiots" to buy.
And for the record, unless their is a proven track history for safety, I will continue to buy the normally constructed/manufactured steel weapons. (or steel components in a polymer frame, obviously). I don't think I want to be the test group for gun technology when I can get cheap reliable weapons by legal means right now. Shoot, a stock Glock is only 700 bucks at the local Bass Pro shop and there even WAY more inexpensive options. That's less than a good night at a Vegas Strip club or bad night at the tables! Cheap! |
