Should be beautiful weather, highs in the mid-70s and sunshine. I'll be working a parking concession with my Rotary Club, catching a few parades in between.

Anyone else celebrating Fat Tuesday?

We do the whole "pancake" tuesday on this side of the water, its what turns shrove tuesday into 'fat tuesday night' (Mardi nuit gras???).

Enjoy the festival!

Happy Mardi Gras!

Manatee told me that the Metairie parades start staging at Lasalle Park, so I may try and get out there this morning.  Other than that, I am enjoying my day off from work!!!!  I've been spoiled by this for 28 years.  It's going to be weird not getting this day off after we move!

That and the 5-year anniversary of meeting my wife.  I was also sure to thank the mutual friend of ours who was, in his words, "...just trying to get ya' laid."  3 1/2 years and two beautiful kids later, I'd say it worked.  Fixin' to do a crab/shrimp boil bohl tonight.  Y'all have fun and be safe!!!!  Damn!! Fixin'?? Y'all??  See what marrying a cajun girl has done to me.  Sheesh!!!!

Celebrating in spirit only from chilly, cajun-lacking Cambridge, MA.

I have a stuffy class to attend tonight on Havahd Yahd...lame, I know!!

Maybe I'll decorate my man with some beads after class, just to stay in the N'awlins spirit.

Cheers, -Sunny

P.S.  Cute story above about the guy who met the cajun gal 5 yrs ago today...awww.

I missed the floats at the park by about 5 minutes!  No beads for me today!  I did dress in the spirit of Mardi Gras for my run, however!

I'll drink heavily and puke on my one year old.

Okay, he hasn't puke on my yet.  He will one day I'm sure, so I'll just be getting payback in advance.

I didn't even know it was Fat Tuesday today until my wife pointed it out and told me she wanted to make a king cake.  I had no idea what it was and I'm still a bit weirded out by the fake baby in it.  She used to go all the time when she was living in Texas.

I am going to call my sister and find out how Biloxi's parades went.  They had some this past weekend also.

I found a King Cake yesterday so we ate that- it wasn't as good as.... ya know.

Next year we're plannign a trip, taking kids out of school for a few days and going.   I can't stand missing 15 years of drunken debauchery.  yes, ti's been that long.

We got married the Friday before Mardi Gras.   many years ago.....

It's not that you CAN'T , it's just that (no offense to your baking skills) it is highly unlikely it would be a real new orleans tasting king cake, there is more to a king cake than throwing a few cinnamon rolls in the oven and putting purple green and gold sprinkles on top

(yikes - i'm super bitter about working today)

so so. It was basically a dough conoction with cinnamon in the middle and a powdered sugar glaze with the colors on top.  The baby was in a bag that was for the purchaser to stick in the cake (dagn liability issues).

I used to buy them at the local Biloxi WalFart for 4.99, big ones, with strawberry cream cheese filling.

hey ya'll, I'll flash the monitor my boobies later when the kids are out of sight.

I tried to make on e a few years ago.  It is a big PITA, let me tell you!  Even with the dough in a breadmaker.

You don't need a fake baby, you can use a pecan or a raisin.  But babies are more fun.

It has cinnamon rolls in it!  mmmm... sounds good.  I have no idea what one is and my wife is quite the baker so well see what she come up with .  However I do know that it will probably taste nothing like the real thing, my wife and I being vegan.  Quite amazingly though she has made some things that taste pretty damn close to what I remember the real thing tasting like.  The best is carrot cake with cream cheese icing (all vegan, still clogs arteries, but very close to the real thing)...  Alrighty, I need to go and eat something, all this cake talk is making me hungry.

I was just starting to warm up to the fake baby idea... I don't think a rasin would do it for me now. All the baby build only to get a rasin.

OMG that is horrible! I paid $50 last year to have an authentic bad-ass one shipped to me.
