I know there are some vets on here....

How long is heat supposed to last? Kitty in question is 6 1/2 months old and it's the first time. Is there anything I can do for this miserable critter? (Getting her a mate is out of the question.) She's hardly eating anything, and losing her voice. We already had a spaying appointment for next week but she's decided to hit puberty NOW!) She's an indoor cat and her buddy is fixed, so no chance of her getting preggers. But she's driving us both nuts!

Ha, we just went through this. Pretty much same scenario. About 6 months old, had a spaying booked but had to put it off because she went into heat. Lasted about a week.
