I just got an e-mail from the Liberty Tri folks saying that they will leave registration open for another day or two, if you still wanted to sign up. They already have over 500 registrants but will accept a few more. It's a great race - if you're still deciding if you want to try it (Oly or HIM) I would highly recommend this venue. |

But, only started HIM training in mid march (for Chisago in July). Anyone want to take a gander at my logs and tell me if I'm crazy? I plan to push the Buffalo Oly the week prior so don't feel like stumbling home on the so I'll pass. Your sbr volume would easily let you finish the Liberty HIM. Why not just go do it for fun? Not probably considered a destination race, but the campground there is superb. Would do it this year, but I'm doing Trinona instead. |

Although smooth glassy lake water would be preferred, which is hard to come by when it's raining. I remember swimming in Lake Independence the day before last year's race. Wind and whitecaps. Drank several cups of lake water. It calmed down overnight, and by the day of the race, the lake was fairly smooth. Had me nervous for a while... |

By the way, I didn't notice the smell of Nokomis while swimming, but holy smokes did I personally find myself ripe with lake smells afterwards. That was really gross - I considered burning my clothes, ha ha. It didn't taste very good either |

So Liberty is home turf for me. There are two good-sized hills at Liberty and a lot of rollers, but also good opportunity for long speedy sections. And Liberty is a beautiful course to look at. The run at Liberty can be tough. There's a nasty woodchip hill to run up at the start and it can be pretty hot and sunny on the route. I don't know the Buffalo Oly run, but the sprint run was a cinch compared to Liberty. Edit: You signed up for the half, right? Your course takes the hardest hill (Homestead on the map) two times. After the woodchip hill, the run course is essentially an out and back on rolling paved trails through the county park. Besides the folks at the aid stations, there were little if ANY spectators. I 'bonked' on the run last year at mile 4 and found it very easy to find an excuse to walk when no one was spectating. Yes, that's my fault--I was mentally weak. Just sayin, I thought it was a mentally tough run. If you've got discipline (unlike me), it'll be no problem... |

They do an excellent job at intersections. I honestly have never noticed an issue/problem with cars on that route, and I ride it fairly often and at different times. |

Thanks for all the info on the course so far. It's great to know a little bit about what I'm getting into. If you see a guy wearing bright orange shorts and a green shirt before or after the race don't be afraid to say hi. My fitness levels are a bit better now, but not significantly, so looking forward to seeing what if any time difference between the two.
