Subject: Nutrition Log Bugs/Questions I

Post your nutrition log bugs and questions and suggestions here for easy finding.  Please read the FAQ stickied in this forum at the top.  I hope to create a more comprehensive FAQ with pictures and 'how-to's' at the end of the week.

Hope you like.

OH...major kudos to marmadaddy...he tested many of the features, caught several bugs and found many things we never even thought of.

Subject: database access?

hey ron -

are we able to access that database yet or is that still to come? or do we input the nutritional info ourselves?

thanks - that's a great addition - your work is greatly appreciated!!!!

You first go to 'Nutrition', then 'Add Meal' (choose the time of it), then 'Edit Meal'...you will then have a bunch of dropdowns and search boxes at the bottom to search the database and pick the foods.

I ran into it too, quick workaround for the time being is to enter one item, give it a quantity of zero, and that kickstarts the calculation to go back to zero.

Yay this is awesome. One small request. On the main blog page where you list total calories plus the calories of carb/fat/protien.... maybe putting the percentage of carb/fat/protien would be more relevant.... how many cal's of carbs doesn't really mean much to me, but on an overview screen, I do like to monitor approx the composition of my food for the day....

Thanks again for continuing to make this a great app!

For the meals you deleted but it did not remove them from the totals, we fixed this BUT you have to go in for those ghost day(s), add something, then delete it for those specific days to go back to normal.

Sorry, let me know if any problems with that.

This feature is fantastic.  I have a similar program on my palm.  To have everything here is extremely convenient and efficient.  No problems that you have't already fixed.

Thanks Ron!

I agree with loving this option that way I have it all in one place. I would also be in favor of the percentages (carb/ protien). Then someone should tell me what the right percentages would be. Thanks Ron your doing a great job and I really appreciate it!

When creating a custom food/meal, it would be helpful to know what units are expected for the nutritional data.

Thanks for another great feature!

Unfortunately, if you 'create a meal' that you routinely eat, the unit of one is assigned to the 'summed' individual food portions you logged at a particular time before you 'created' that meal...so it's up to you to determine what individual logged food sizes go into 'one qauntity' from which you will be 'creating a meal' from.

Similiarly, when you 'create a food', you have to enter the amounts of individual ingrediants in the right proportion so that you know how much constitutes '1 serving' or 'quantity' - you then adjust that by scaling up or down the 'quantity' when you start logging that 'meal' or 'custom food'

In essence, it will ALWAYS assign any custom meal/food a quantity unit of one that you create...when you start logging you will know how much equals 'one' and adjust accordingly.

I hope that helps...I see no way other around this .

Actually, I was more interested in knowing the specific nutritional units when entering the data, e.g. grams, milligrams, % of RDA, etc.

Duh!  I hear you now.  Will add in the units for all the nutrients so you know what is std.  Day or two.

all this food is prepackaged... how do I enter something I made?  chili, spaghetti, lasagna, manicotti, etc?

I had a couple pieces of candy today.  Not in snacks.

Christine, this is done by using the Custom Food or Custom Meal option. If you know the nutrition information for the dish you've made, you can enter it as a custom food. If you only know the nutrition information for the ingredients, you could use those to create a custom meal.

Yes, I still owe you all a FAQ on how to nutrition log...just want to make sure all the main 'issues' are taken care of before making it public....i think we are pretty much done with the basic features and it's humming now...

I was going to start instructions now, but alas, its 1am, and I think I want to go to sleep with Aliens now...

I'll try to have something posted this weekend.

And yes, Lucy, like marmadaddy alluded to, if you are going to make a custom food of several ingrediants, you are going to have to AT LEAST add up the weights of each ingrediant and of the nutrients that are important to you AND then total them (calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, sugar, protein, cholesterol, etc)...you can either enter the 'entire meal totals' as a custom food or divide it up into a typical serving size you eat...SOME math will be required for a 'custom meal' - no way around that as its up to you to determine 'batch size' or 'serving size'.  Then when you log you either enter a whole number (example, '2' units if you logged the meal according to one serving) or a fraction of the 'batch' (example, 0.25 units if you just lumped and summed ALL ingrediants together in a recipe that will give you 4 meals.)

If it's just a custom food (individually), then you just log whats on the label...you can then combine several of them to 'make a meal' - an alternative to the previous paragraph.

Hopefully it will become clearer when I get some instructions and how-to's up.  Feel free to experiment though...you can delete any custom food you dont want.

Love the nutrition log.  One request / question, would it be possible to have a "frequently used" drop down list of foods that you frequently use?  I know that I almost always have a turkey or ham sandwhich for lunch and being able to go right to a menu that listed turkey instead of searching would be helpful.

Thanx and again I love the log.

Adios
Dave

When entering a custom food what do you put in the Carbohydrate by difference section.  So far I have be subtracting the fiber and sugars from the total amount on the label and using that.

Thanks for the great work.  This is the major feature that I felt was missing from this truly awesome site.
