Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Having spent the week with strained back ligaments, I started to think of all my past injuries I have had. So my challenge is this, list your injuries. Remember chicks dig scars, and so do blokes. R ankle- twisted 3 times (roled completely once, lucky not to snap anterior ligaments) L ankle- twisted 2 times Crushed toes L foot- (take off doing long jump, bare feet, rolled toes under body weight for takeoff. Not an Olympic accredited method of execution for long jump) Concusion- once Torn rotator cuff R shoulder/ L on the way out also Bruised ribs left side (done while jumping a bench and landing on concrete from approx 5 feet) Split bottom lip Chipped tooth Road rash of course Edited by Downunderman 2005-09-15 9:48 PM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Road rash, bruised rib, separated shoulder -- and that's just from the fall from my bike two weeks ago. X-rays taken after that debacle showed that I had suffered a broken collar bone many years ago, and never even knew it! I've also had bouts of plantar fachitis and ITBS. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Very very long time ago...twisted ankle jumping over fence. Put rusty nail through back of hand. Very long time ago...broke left arm (skateboarding) Long time ago...split eyebrow (facial wounds in a pool can be VERY dramatic) Last year...broke left wrist (snowboarding) If there is enough interest, I can post this story as a separate thread. |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Very very long time ago, like in pre-historic time: locked elbow falling down from... er... shower curtain bar (nailed in, not the removable kind). The 10-yr-old me was trying to do pull-ups on that bar.... landed elbow first on ceramic tile. To this day, my parents still didn't know how the heck I hurt it that I was in so much pain that I couldn't move my arm. Fortunately didn't break anything. Even longer time ago, kicked on something hard, pulled out my toe nail. In college while biking to class, tried to avoid hitting a pedstrian crossing the road, slipped and fell while on full speed downhill, crashed on road, torned skin on palm and arm, torned jacket. Last year, fell from step during step aerobics class, sprained right ankle very badly. I have been very lucky I hadn't broken any bones. *knock on wood* |

![]() | ![]() My biggest injury was from a car accident, a multiple compound fracture of the left femur. There's a circular scar where the bone stuck out and a long scar up the side where the doc went in to line up all the pieces as he drove a pin in from the top. Same event caused a gouge on my neck that came less than an eighth of an inch from opening a big bleeder, some broken bones in my foot that healed funny, and some big long scars on my left shoulder where a tattoo would go. One of my earliest memories is of a taped up broken shoulder from rolling out of the top of some bunk beds in my sleep. Also while quite young, I lost a couple of toe nails when a bed frame with a half a dozen kids bouncing on it collapsed and landed on my foot. I broke my sternum in a strange skiing crash once and it still pops, sounding like a knuckle joint, when I stretch after sitting hunched over for too long. Dislocated my right knee going through the fence off a luge track once. Actually, I was mowing the fence down just fine until I got to the fence post. I hyper-extended my other knee once while skiing and crunched some stuff in there too. Separated my right shoulder twice so far taking dives off my mtn.bike and dislocated my little finger once so that it stuck out straight back from my hand. I've had cortisone shots for tendonitis in a couple of different spots. Some plantar fasciitis recently but I couldn't count all the strains and sprains. It would take a while to count all the other scars too and I'm not sure I could remember where they all came from. |

Elite Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Geez, everyone's falling apart!! Well, let's see: Lots of stitches between ages 5-8- Dad said I had more stitches than Bobby Hull at the time. ![]() Eyebrow Chin Back of head split lip and broke tooth when I got hit by another bicycle coming at me- about 10 years old Nail through my heel- tetanus shot and more stitches- who knew that a nail could go through a flipflop when you jump on it? I was only about 9 or 10. Not the brightest at the time... Sprained ankle playing football fractured tarsel on left foot from a hide a bed being dropped on it. Now have a nice big knot on the top of my foot. Partially torn ACL with meniscus tear playing hockey- had arthroscopic surgery Deep venous thrombosis (blod clot) in my left calf from surgery- in the hospital for a week. note: if you women are on birth control pills- STOP before having surgery. Completely Torn ACL (same one) playing softball- ACL reconstruction with patellar tendon No blood clot this time Numerous crashes on my motocross bike, and street bike and a few rough landings while skydiving. Scars, scrapes, bumps, bruises. Overall I feel pretty lucky. Edited by bmax 2005-09-16 7:26 PM |

Uh, just wondering about the back story on this one....????? Ok, I'll play. Hmmm. Dent in skull (I'll never look good bald)--first grade, pushed out of tree house. It's ok, I got her back. Stitches on chin--seesaw incident. Dislocated shoulder--'swing me around' incident. Black eyes--two. Gotta catch the balls with my HANDS. Knee surgery--high school gymnastics. Partially torn ACL and meniscus removed. This is before the cool brace thingies were made in small girls' sizes, at least where I lived. They wrapped up my entire leg like a giant sausage. Sprained ankle. Foolish venture into cross country running. Leg stitches--dive for phone. Broken toe-- wrestling in ocean. |

Guess I'm glad to know I am in empathetic hands when they lay me out on the table for knee surgery. Well they do say physician heal they self....but they also say Dr.'s are they're own worst patient. Plus, we have all the connections to the best people! I guess that makes it one of the perks. |

Uh, just wondering about the back story on this one When I studied abroad in England, we lived in this huge, beautiful castle with a driveway 1/2 mile long. The "tradition" was to get hammered in the bistro (which happened to be in the basement of the school...nice) and then do the "naked mile." Unfortunately for me, not only had they JUST set up the infared cameras to prevent this type of occurance, but a car came, too. I think that had I not been as drunk as I was, I would have broken something. The next day I went back and had a friend lower me down to retrieve my bra and underwear. I also used up an entire bottle of antibiotic ointment in 1 day. It was not fun...but the story is one of my best! (Oh and recently the President of the College threatened to send me "my" videotape, too...) hehe |

I was fairly certain that 'hammered' or the equivalent would figure pomnently in the explanation, but the international angle and the infrared cameras add nice twists. Cool story!
