Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Go to Tribe and get some tri shorts and a tri top. ...though you may want to swim topless then in T1 dry off and put on a dry top. That's not always the best idea, but in February it may be a good idea. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Practice T1 and T2 several times, set up an area in your garage/driveway and go thru the process like it was race day. If you are leaving your shoes clipped on your pedals, practice mounting and dismounting. Good luck! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Don't leave T2 with your helmet on! |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I bet, I'll forget to take off my helmets ![]() In midst of ething, I dont think I can pull off a stunt of putting my shoes on/off on the bike. That may have to wait till my next race ![]() Cant wait to get my hands on to my first tri-clothes though. I'm having daymares every waking hour of having a flat and that I wont be able to swim 100m without stopping (do they let you stop to catch a breath in swim??? really.. not kidding). So long.. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You will see people hanging on to the wall all the time, more than not. I had the same questions on my first tri, you will find out you won't be alone on your first event. I agree with going shirtless swimming then dry off, its only a few seconds extra. Good Luck |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() At the start of the swim, they will make us line up by our numbers in sequence. They let a swimmer go off every 15 seconds. Keep to the right side of the lane so the stronger swimmers can pass on the left. Remember to start slow on the swim, it's very easy to kill yourself on the first couple laps because you're on a rush. Yes, you can hold on to the wall at the end of a lap to catch your breath before continuing. You'll see a lot of people doing that. Leaving the shoes clipped in probably won't do us middle to back packers much good. The few seconds it's going to buy us isn't going to make that much of a difference in our overall time, but I have to say it does look pretty darn cool to jump on and off the bike on the fly. But I can just see myself getting my legs caught and hit the deck hard. I think there are a few of us here doing this tri on the 28th. Let's get together before the race and do a rah-rah morale booster high fiving adrenaline pumping chest thumping war cry or something like that. Edited by JoeP138 2010-02-09 9:43 AM |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I agree about the bike shoes. I always run through transition wearing bike shoes, and I do just fine. |

So long.. 4 years ago - even though I was given this advice before my first tri, I started to head out on the run with my helmet on. Only got about 6 or 7 steps away from my bike, but I headed back and had to chuckle. Having a hat or visor to change into should prevent this. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You can swim any stroke in the pool. You can stop to rest at the end of the lane if neede. Doggy paddle or crawl if you must. Keep things simple in Transition. Lay things out in a logical order. I place everything for the bike in my helmet except the shoes. The bike and run distance is not too long, so no biggie if you forget something. Don't worry about nutrition. Just live off of the course. For the sprint distance, you may not need anything more than water. |

It helps greatly to know what to anticipate. From now till the race, I will have to train myself to slow down on the first 50m. I've been visualizing worst things compared to hitting the deck once I miss the target ![]() I'm all up for getting together prior to the race. May be Landis Cyclery when we pick up the packets.. Other options? I know I will meet some of you earlier during this month. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Rick, Tom and Chad, Thanks for sharing. At T1, I plan to run with my shoes on, past the line (keep to the right) and mount. Just bring water on bike. What time do you recommend being there on the race day? Do they allow you to drop your bikes/ stuff the day before? What is the typical turnaround for this race? My goal is to finish ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Still debating on this one. I would like to do a sprint before my Oly in Rocky Point in April. I was thinking about this one or the YMCA one on March 14th. I still don't have my loaner bike yet from my neighbor so I haven't done any actual road work yet. Hoping to get it this weekend though. I think the length of the Scottsdale race is a good first Tri distance. I missed the Feb 6th cutoff so it's going to cost a bit more if I do this. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The YMCA is March is a 50m pool, so less turns. The JCC bike route is nicer scenery, though. |

Member ![]() ![]() | ![]() Question: I did this race last year and saw a bunch of people drafting during the bike portion. Is it legal for this race? How do I know which race allow drafting? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was hoping the rain would hold off until Sat afternoon cause I have a ride scheduled for Sat morning. I'm going to get a nice long one in today though if I have to gym it tomorrow. Good luck to all that are competing (or just trying to finish) on Sat morning. Be safe. |

I will try to find you to give you a high five but may be too nervous to do anything else... |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I will be doing this Tri tomorrow. Just my luck RAIN. This is only my second tri, I am a complete rookie. My first tri was December 5 2009 in Anthem, which also was bad weather, COLD. Oh well we live for this. |
|
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good luck! |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Initally I thought I was border line crazy this morning when I drove myself to the Tri since it was raining. But, after i started thinking about it I wasn't border line crazy, I was defintely crazy. While I was driving there I thought for sure they would cancel the event with all the rain, but I saw all the cones already set up at 6:15 AM for the bike route, then as I entered the parking lot I saw probably a 100 people already there getting their bikes out and placing them in the transistion area. All said and done the race was on and began probably about 7:35 am, I finished and packed my stuff up and came home in wet clothes. I don't have very good luck, this was my second tri, RAINING the whole time, My first was the Anthem sprint on Decembet 5th,2009 one of the coldest days in 2009. I can't wait until I get to do a race with decent weather. I am interested in what other thought about the race? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, my wife was cold but she hung in there and was 4th female overall! Conditions were awful, I felt so bad for you guys. Congrats on the big HTFU! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Not a good weather day for racing! The big rain cloud that hung out over the McDowells made for a very challenging race there today too! I guess it's not something we get to do very often in AZ though, usually we are worrying about how hot it is going to be. My stuff is wet, and caked in mud, I dont even know where to start with my shoes! My hubby has the day off tomorrow so I guess he will be cleaning my bike |
