Swim
Comments: The swim felt really good, I distanced myself from the individual behind me so I was never pressured. I went at a good pace, probably about 4:30 for the swim. What would you do differently?: There isn't much I would change, other than training a little harder. The swim was fine, my transition was pretty good for the first time. Transition 1
Comments: I had some difficulty getting into my shoes and starting up on the ride, but I got going reasonably quickly. What would you do differently?: I would practice changing into shoes with wet feet more so I could feel more comfortable completeing the transition Bike
Comments: While riding, I felt like I was moving along at a good pace, but my overall time was much slower than it should have been. I struggled some with gear changes, i'm still trying to get used to my bike What would you do differently?: I would practice much longer bike rides, so a 20km wouldn't feel too long. More speed work on the bike would also have been very useful. Transition 2
Comments: This transition felt really easy, I took my time getting my bib on, but other than that it went smoothly. What would you do differently?: I would find a way to get my bib on quicker and get into a better rhythm with the run. Run
Comments: my legs were hurting the whole time. I couldn't seem to get into any groove until after the 2 mile mark. I stopped for short periods of time at each water break to try and get my legs rested, but it never worked and I'm thinking that if I kept running I would've been in much better shape What would you do differently?: I would do more bike-run brick workouts. My body wasn't ready for a hard run after a bike, and training is what needs to be worked on. I would also not allow myself to stop, slow down a little, but make sure to keep running so my legs have a better chance of getting into a groove earlier. Post race
Warm down: I did a couple slow laps around the YMCA building. I made sure to keep walking for a while so as not to tighten up. I did a good stretch about a half hour after I finished. What limited your ability to perform faster: My training was very weak and I really need to improve it in order to increase my race ability. Event comments: I really enjoyed this race as my first. It was a very short race, which allowed me to get into triathlons quicker. The volunteers and all the racers were extremely nice and it helped push me on my run especially. I found out 5 days before the race that I was entered, so I quickly tried to lengthen my bike rides. Unfortunately I wasn't in as good a shape as I would have hoped for, but it felt great to complete my first tri.
I did a nice slow jog around the transition area to try and get a light sweat, it was hard to tell when I was sweating because of the constant rain. I then did a couple hundred yards in the pool to get used to the temperature.
