I read about this earlier today.  IMO, I think the settlement offered is more than fair.  Stupid fans listening some greedy lawyer.

I think the bigger surprise would have been if they didn't.

My understanding is that the NFL offered them 3 or 4 times face value, I bet they get 30 to 40 times that amount.

I thought they were suing because Jerry Jones said that the Cowboys would be the first team to play a Super Bowl in their home stadium.

I was listening to this on the radio and someone also made a good point.  MOST LIKELY, people took time off of work (paid or unpaid) had travel expenses, hotel expenses, food and drink...  All of which was purchased because they were going to the game...

I realize they still got to enjoy that stuff, but a big part of me, to make up for the disapointment for possibly losing out of a once in a lifetime chance, to get paid back for all of that.

3-4x the price is nice and all, but to fly and stay down in dallas to watch it on a tv would still me off. Im kinda happy to see it, but it is completely overboard on the amount of the lawsuit. I dont get how you have a year to get the stadium together and not be ready for it.

Add to this the story that Jerry and/or the NFL allegedly knew long before the game that the seats wouldn't be approved, but Jerry wanted the attendance record so went ahead anyway.  Please, greedy?  NFL and the owners wrote the book.

I'd have to find the link but I read that the NFL has stepped up with an additional offer.

Originally, they were offering $2400, then it went to $2400 and a ticket to next year's Super Bowl.  Given that a number of the fans were only there because it was their team in the game, the NFL is offering the alternative of a package to any future Super Bowl including ticket, flight, and hotel.

I'm no fan of Jerry Jones or big corporations but I'm also not a fan of suing somebody just because you see deep pockets.  $2400 plus a ticket to next years superbowl is more than fair.  But hey, I know we live in a litigation crazy society.  I'm okay with having a minority opinion here.

The options are:

Triple face value refund plus ticket for next year (This is option fully transferable. IE they can get the triple refund check and then transfer their ticket to someone else next year, in other words, StubHub it and make additional profit, esp since Indy has far less seating for next year's game than Dallas)

OR

A package deal, non-transferable, for a ticket to any future SB game plus travel and lodging.

Totally fair, but I'd take option 2 in a heart beat.

As a diehard Redskins fan, I am no Jerry Jones fan, but this lawsuit is ridiculous. The NFL has made a good faith attempt to fix a mistake, but NOOOOOOOOO......Of course it's never good enough once the greed and the lawyers show up.

Mistakes happen...move on!

And you know that's the reason they sued because...  you've spoken to them?  know the lawyer?  or, perhaps, an assumption based on your bias that you already don't like lawsuits.  Which is fine.  But seriously, those packer fans?  Seats are transferred via estates and not sold?  Perhaps, maybe, it's possible, that it was a big deal to them?  And they took time from work?  And it cost them mnore than $2400 to fly down there and stay (wanna guess how much the Dallas hotels jacked their prices for SB week?)  A future superbowl?  Packers were last in the game in what, 93?  Theymay have to wait another 20 years to cash in  (sorry scooby)?  I don't see that as exactly fair.

Hey, i'm the first one in line against BS cases.  I see them every day.  But I just don't agree with ascribing motives to people when you really have no clue.  Nor do I.  They may be greedy bast**ds.  But they also may be truly damaged from a financial aspect.  And they may have been misled by the Cowboys and the NFL

But I know that people also tend to prefer trials by internet and tend to conclude guilt/liability/innocence based on blogs and newspaper articles

Anyway, that's just my .02.  Yeah, I get paid because people sue other people.  I've seen systems in other countries where people have no rights.  I sure prefer here, where people have an opportunity for a day in court if they feel wronged.  In some circles, that is a minority opinion, but we've got constitutions and such protecting those rights.  And you know what?  Despite the easy rants agains the system, courts usually get these things right

Yep. Factoring the time value of money I may actually owe the NFL  by the time they make a SB.

Speaking of Snyder and ridiculous lawsuits, check out his recently filed case against the Washington City Paper....unbelievable.....but that's another thread...

yes, I have made an assumption because of my bias against petty lawsuits.  Look, they have been offered $2400 plus a ticket to next years superbowl.  That ticket I'm sure can be sold for 1 grand or more should they want to sell it.  That $3400!  Doing the math in my head i don't think they spent that much getting out their and paying for food and lodging.  If they did, they are fools.  As far as the time and money they missed from not going to work...from what I understand from people I know that have attended SB's...the real fun is in the party all week.  I'm sure these people enjoyed being part of the hoopla as much as anyone all week long.

I realize that we have a constitution that allows us to protect our rights. Seems to me that this group of people want to exercise that right.  I don't have to like it and I sure don't think they are doing the right thing.

I'm okay that we disagree.

So why are they suing the Dallas Cowboys and not the NFL?  which approved the seating plan or the safety inspectors/fire marshals that were working hand in hand with the NFL hoping they could get the support structure set correctly in time. And then told the NFL that the seats were not up to safety requirements.

I could see them suing the NFL, or Jerry Jones (since it's his stadium)  but not the Dallas Cowboys which play in Jerry Jones stadium.

I think what Gary's getting at is that the Cowboys and the stadium are separate entities both owned by Jerry Jones.  The team really has nothing to do with events at the stadium other than their own games.

Why didn't the NFL Commission and Jerry Jones just give up their VIP boxes?  They should have made it right that day.  They risked trying to get this setup under the gun, and failed.  Every project manager I know has a backup plan if things don't go as scheduled.  They obviously did not.  At the very least they could have sold the tickets in a manner which ensured the ticket holders knew this was a possibility.  The NFL sells this as a once in a lifetime type of event, which is why they are able to gain such huge profits.  $2,400 for each of these people isn't even noticeable to their profits.  It is ridiculous this has to go to court because the NFL did such a terrible job.

So let's say your favorite football/hockey/baseball/basketball/soccer/darts team made it to the championship for the first time in a decade or two, and you're finally at that point in your life where you finally have the time and means to go see them. And you get there only to be told your seats aren't actually there and you have to watch the game on a television. Yes it's easy to sit back and say `Those people are ridiculous.' but you don't know how they feel or what they went through to get to the game.

Maybe this will make the NFL take a step back and realize that it's the fans that pay their bills, that give them the $8b in money they're arguing about right now, and it's time they actually took care of them instead of screwing them over by raising ticket prices, merchandising prices and now, not having seats for them for which they've already paid.
