Subject: Diet Coke Addiction 2005 Edition

Okay I didn't want to hijack the coffee thread. We had a very lengthy discussion on this topic last fall. I'm wondering if anyone actually kicked their Diet Coke addiction. It IS crack. It must be. I decided the day after my first tri would be a good day to quit. So far it's been 4 days. Surprisingly, my head hasn't exploded....yet. I've never made it past 48 hours but I think meeting at least a few tri goals has helped a lot.

Anybody else kick the habit, or desperately hoping to do so?

I gave up any kind of carbonated drinks for several years but started again as I started training for tris. I need the energy. I prefer Diet Dr. Pepper right now actually. I have no interest in giving up.

Another thread I'm hijacking today.

One of my best friends convinced me a long time ago that everyone deserves and should have at least one substance addiction... I say live dangerously and join a proud-to-be-diet-coke-addicts club.  Heck, I will even join with you.  What is in that suff?

I've proudly kicked the Diet Coke habit (he says while sipping on his Fresca, a diet soft drink made by Coca Cola)

I am generally a caffeine fiend, and I usually take my dosage through starbucks and diet cokes. (Probably 4 coffess and 5 diet cokes a day) I will never kick the habit.

Last weekend I discovered cherry diet coke - awesome stuff - sweet as can be with 0 calories. Anyone else tried this stuff?

I'm cutting back... I have a large Diet Coke like EVERY OTHER morning now... I've already kicked the Egg McMuffin additiction... and I've been doing well with my other McDonald's vices. I just don't think I'll ever entirely kick the Diet Coke. I don't know if I want to .... ?

Diet Coke, Diet Dr Pepper, Diet Barq's, (hard to find here, though), and after a long workout, Diet Slice or Sunkist really hits the spot!  Flatwoods has a cooold drink machine with Diet Slice- oh yummmmm........ especially on a hot day!

Gave up Diet Coke for Lent a few years ago.  Went right back on it on Easter

No, along with Chocolate, I will not give up.

Never tried the Splenda coke.  WM is heavily promoting it.  No desire to try anything with that Splenda stuff in it.  Weird, I know.

Hi! I'm new here, but yep, I kicked it just fine.

I overheard a friend say "You know, the only people I see drinking Diet Coke are fat people." I stopped cold turkey and haven't missed it once. I've saved money, feel better, and results show up quicker on my body.

For years I could not stand diet cola products, since becoming a health nut in the last five years the only thing I can stomach is diet pepsi.

I see fat people at WalMart all the time but I still shop there.  I save a lot of money too.   So you drink regular coke?  yecch.

Nope, Lucy, I don't drink any carbonated beverages. I didn't switch -- I quit.

And re: the Wal-Mart analogy -- I think what people put into their bodies is a little different than where they shop, ya know?

Don't bother trying the Spenda version. I absolutely agree. It soils the good name of Diet Coke.

I love diet coke, but I limit it to 2-3 cups/cans per week.  I saw a study where they poured diet coke on a piece of raw meat.  In a matter of 24 hours there was a huge hole inside the meat- that convinced me.  Since then Iv'e gone from a 2 liter a day habit to a 2 can a week habit.

LOVE IT!!! )

After all the its bad for you it makes you fat its the work of the devil blah blah blah ......

Went to a nutritionsit and she gave me the same line..CLEARLY that was why I wasn't losing weight.  She tells me she had 5 of her clients go off DC and they all lost 3-5 pounds.  OK so I wean myself painfully off.  Made it a week, didn't lose a pound.  Screw it.  Its my only vice, I'm not giving it up.  I don't drink coffee.  That said I have cut down to 2-3 per day instead of the 8 or so I was drinking.

DC with Splenda tastes like TAB...EEEWWWWWWW.  I think its nasty.  Tried Coke Zero this week.  Its ok but regular DC is better.

SO Regular DC>Coke zero>DC splenda

I dumped the stuff January 1. I just started drinking lots of water, and some decaf iced tea with Splenda (made in my Mr. Coffee tea maker). Mostly just water. I dunno whether it's made a difference or not, but after months and months it's just been habit. On a rare occasion I'll split a Sprite (easier to lose the sugar than get back off the caffeine) with my wife.

I did have a - ack! - Pepsi in the recovery room after my foot surgery, but that's only because I'd been about 18 hours with no food or drink of any kind and they didn't have any Coke.

So Bill, are all the unrepentant lip-smacking addicts in this thread firming up your resolve, or weakening it? (I'll check back in right after I go get another cuppa coffee...)
