Bye-bye GOP

It's the day after elections, where's your happy face?

I told my wife this isn't election day, it's just that we are getting the update on the next round of people to be investigated, indicted and/or trashed for scandalous behavior.

I'm hoping two things happen:

• Nancy Pelosi moderates herself a bit. The left side of the aisle on balance isn't nearly as liberal as she is, so to be a good leader she needs to represent a bit.
• W. proves that he actually can be a uniter, as he ran on in 2000. If he rejects the will of congress and by proxy the people by vetoing everything that's presented to him, it will only affirm that he really never could live up to what he said he was.

I'm excited because for the first time in 6 years the checks-and-balances so necessary to our chosen form of government has been restored. It's going to be tough, but I believe some good things can come of this congress.

Except I might have to pay more taxes.

Republicans got us into this mess and then they complain that someone might have to raise taxes to pay for their frivilous spending. *GASP* Last time I check, Clinton balanced the budget. There doesn't seem to be a debate about which party is more fiscally sound.

 This is one of the most obtuse arguments that Republicans are making.  Remind me what the deficit is?  Republicans got us into this mess and then they complain that someone might have to raise taxes to pay for their frivilous spending.  *GASP*  Last time I check, Clinton balanced the budget.  There doesn't seem to be a debate about which party is more fiscally sound. 

It's interesting. Last night Charlie Rose had a pretty interesting panel that was analyzing the election. Katrina vanden Huevel, the editor of The Nation , said at one point that the democrats need to consider not reducing the deficit, because this would have a negative effect on the economy which would then hurt the democrats in '08.

She was the most partisan liberal on the panel, but at another point she was arguing that democrats should push for a strong defense and a foreign policy of containment. At that point the edtior from Newsweek (I don't remember his name), turned to her and said, "So, basically your saying that the democrats should endorse Ronald Reagan's policies. )

She was speechless. It was pretty funny. I gotta find the name of the Newsweek editor, he was pretty sharp.

I don't think they will go off the deep end, but hopefully they will shake the trees on a few issues that the White House has dodged, such as investigating the shady energy deals from the VP's office.

I am very interested in seeing where the Dem's take the direction of the country. I am sure a lot of them our celebrating but remember when the hang over is over and you say to yourself "WTF now we need a plan" I hope it is a good one.
I agree with Jim that the Dems have got to get a handle on Nancy Pol, her mouth is going to turn off a lot of people that voted for the Dems last night and if she keeps it up, it might be a short rule....

As for Mac's above comment... I think it is very sad that you now have the majority power in the greatest country in the world, the Dems hold the golden goose. Can change the world, grant amnesty, fight global warming, bring our troops home, find alternative power sources, fund a national healthcare, raise minimum wages, tax the rich to pay for more social services, talk with KJI in N Korea and end the stale mate there, bring peace to the middle east, and repair our countries faith in the government. AND what do you think is important???? A investigation of some energy deals.... That is all you got?

I hope the rest of the D's do not waist this great chance to prove all of the Repubs were unfit to be in office...
