Who's in?

According to the website, registration opens sometime in May. Anyone have anything more specific? I don't remember this one filling up as fast as River Cities, but I know it fills up. I'm going out of town for a little over a month next week and want to make sure I can get in.

I'm in. It will sell out for sure, but it usually takes a 2-3 months before it sells out. Great race. Sign up as soon as you can!

Count on me!

Last year it filled on 6/8/07, but registration opened on 4/16/07 (per last year's thread). Less than two months, but who knows how long it will take with registration beginning in mid-May or later?

I'll post here if/when I hear of registration opening.

I know temperatures will dictate, but do people normally wear a wetsuit for this race?

Not a chance. This is in south Louisiana in early September. Air temps will be in the mid 90s, water temps won't be much cooler.

If you're not a USAT member you have to buy a one-day license for $10, this option should be available when you register online.

Not sure about "you have to put certain things at certain stations or something like that?" Are you talking about transitions?

IMHO, simpler is better, add goggles and that pretty much covers the essentials. You could even do away with the socks if that sits alright with you in training. There are a ton of things that you may choose to have, here is an interactive checklist of possibilities.

Probably told you this before, but if this is your first triathlon I would strongly advise that you at least watch another triathlon to see what goes on. If you need, I can send you a list of triathlons in the area over the next four months.

Better still would be for you to actually participate in one of the shorter triathlons to get the experience. CajunMan is a rather long sprint, and not particularly one I would tri for my first.

Registration is online only through the active.com website HERE. If you intend to register, I would do so ASAP. I expectt his thing to be at capacity by mid-June.

Thanks, I didn't think so. That's good beacause the wetsuit is one less thing I have to worry about getting..

I'd say 90% of the male participants don't even wear tops, much less wetsuits.

Cool

I'M IN.....for volunteering again.  Wink  It's a great race!!!  It is very well organized and lots of fun!

No dirty water for me......it's 90 feet deep or deeper in some areas.....strong swimming skills are needed and recommended.  JK20-It's also very HOT on race day.

LSU03, PLEASE go see other races and participate in the shorter races!  I sent you a list and listen to BEAR, too.  The one on June 1 would be a great starting place and it's nearby.

Hope to meet you both soon.  Good luck and have fun training!!!

The first RVW race is June 29, register here and more info at this link. That would be a little better for a first-timer, swim is half as long, you'll have about one-third of the participants so a lot less confusion. We should be there as well.

Another one that's sooner and even shorter is the Yam City Triathlon in Opelousas. Short (200M) swim in a pool, so you can even hang on the ropes/edge to rest if need be. Very beginner friendly.

As far as USAT membership, the economic breakeven is four races: $40 for an annual membership versus $10 per race for one-day permits. There are other benefits that might make it worth it to you even if you do fewer races. Check it out at www.usatriathlon.com .

How old are you? If you're 17 or under, it's only $5 per year...

Take Bear's advice and do the Yam City Tri First. I did the Rip Van Winkle last year and I think it would be a great race for your first open water swim tri.
