For anyone interested in a test of their cardio fitness and bike handling skills, my riding club, Aaron's/L5Flyers is hosting the almost-annual Dog Days Crit in Grant Park on Sunday.

I believe the Cat V race is all-comers - Road bike only, though. Any way you slice it, these crits are challenging but what a rush! Check it out..

My game plan is to ride like lleh to get the prime on the first lap, thereby making it highly likely I'll be completely spent and ultimately get pulled by the course marshal. That way I don't have to suffer through the whole race but I can say I won something..

Well, all I'll say is these crits are tough..

Race is a near flat-out sprint at times followed by short recovery, all the while keeping an eye on the folks at the front in case an indidvidual/group gets a breakaway going. This course was half uphill/half down.

Roughly 40 riders at the start for CAT 5, a third of whom got pulled by the course marshall before race's end..I stayed in the front five for the first half of the race, tried to bridge a small gap that was forming and completely blew myself up and finished exactly one lap down. And this was the CAT 5 race! The 3's are absolute animals and don't get me started on the 1/2's.

Highly recommended experience.
