Can't control who shows up on race day. 50-54 winners from the first 3 years: 2007 6:55:49 2008 5:37:17 2009 6:39:56 Maybe the guy who won 2008 saw the '07 results and thought what I did. I'm pretty sure I can beat 6:55 (or 6:39.) 5:37 would be tougher but not out of the question. Maybe Dave is thinking the same thing. Edited by mrbbrad 2009-10-31 2:35 PM |

The race looks like a hoot. It was my first HIM and my third tri. I had no business being there  (I am NOT a cyclist!) but it was a stunning race. I tried the wall but only made it about 1/3 of the way up ! |

Master 3546 Millersville, MD | Subject: RE: Savageman HIM : Official Thread I successfully ascended the wall multiple times in training, but had to unclip on race day due to the carnage on the course and losing my line to a woman who fell in front of me. I wish I had gone back down and tried again but the tought of adding climbing is not good if you are familiar with the course. I will be at Savageman 2010 for a second time. |

Veteran 107 Virginia | Subject: RE: Savageman HIM : Official Thread I'm in for 2010 and I can guarantee that I will not win my age group! I was looking for a new challenge for this year. In the past three years I have had new race challenges for each year, three years ago my first running and tri season so everything was a challenge, two years ago my first marathon NYC Marathon and last year Ironman Florida. I was going into this year without a lot of excitement and I couldnt figure out why. Yes I wanted to get faster and improve some of my times on races that I had done before, but I didnt have a clear cut challenge before me like the years prior. Now I do.....Savageman! See you all on Sept 19, 2010!

I guess it depends on the ratio's If your cassette is a straight block (1 tooth diff on each cog) maxing out with a 19 it'd be a mircale...and...they ought to give you 2 bricks. If it were me I'd pester my LBS for a wide range cassette with the big gear a 27 or better. |

LBS=local bike store Congrats on the new bike...NICE I'm riding a road bike with a 11-23 and a compact crank. A 12-25 with standard cranks is great for most conditions. Standard cranks (53-39 or near it) and a 25 for Savage would be difficult for me. If your a gear pounding animal on the bike you might be allright. An extra cassette doesn't cost much (unless its Dura Ace level) and with the right tools is easy to change. Even with my compact crank I'm planning on getting a 12-27 just for SavageMan. Hope we make it up the wall! |

My first adult road bike was a borrowed 1988 Schwinn Le Tour. Coming off a GT Hybrid the Le Tour was smokin fast. Hey Pec, welcome to the over 200 club. Josh and I are with ya. Ridding it is tricky and you do need a good line. To the right I found to be the best for me. Also gearing choice helps along with a proper cadence (RPM) going up. SavageMan is no doubt a very challenging race with very steep grades. Savage Mountain is 7 miles long with several steep accents including the “Wall”.
