AdaBug - 2009-07-07 11:56 PM My second Oly, training race for HIM...I haven't decided if I'll try to locate Old Stage tomorrow on my ride, I guess I should...sheesh. though, gauging by what Maas posted (15%???) I'm worried about cut-off times.
No way you need to worry about cut off times! You will be fine. A lot of people walk their bikes up the hill...seriously.
For most people, walking the bike is faster than biking it
In all seriousness, that hill, although steep, is relatively short. The key is to maintain your pacing going up Lee Hill so you have some reserves when rounding that corner and staring up Old Stage. Also, note that once you crest the initial steep Old Stage climb, you still have a couple other minor climbs. I remember the first time I crested that steep section and started a descent thinking "that wasn't so bad." That feeling lasted for about 30 seconds, as I was greeted w/ yet another climb. But after a session of 15-20%, anything less than 10% is a speed bump!
Good luck. It's a fun race w/ great support. You should have a great time. And if it makes you feel any better about your date w/ Old Stage, a few of us opted to do the Triple Bypass, which is the day before the Peak. I figure by the time Loveland Pass rolls around, I'll be wishing I was doing intervals up Old Stage in a fixie |
