Cobb County - VOTE

I am surprised that this thread has not taken off.  I remember a recent thread about blowing off steam because of bad roads morphing into a thread on bike advocacy.  I also remember the hoopala that went on during the time they were trying to ban bikes on columns drive.  If this is the guy that was behind all of that, I am surprised that the biking community has not gotten behind his opponent to throw him out and let other politicians know that cyclist are becoming a constituency that needs to be considered when making decisions.

Although I live in Cherokee, I would like to see if there is anything that I could do to get rid of politicians that believe bikes should be on the sidewalks.  I would think that at least the bike shops in Cobb would want to try and get people involved in this.

I really just wanted to bring Dan's post back to the top.  It really annoyed me that Commissioner Joe Thompson wanted to ban cyclists from columns drive.  As a part of the local biking community, I would like to see as many bike friendly people in local offices as possible as long as I agree with their other convictions.  Unfortunately, I live in Cherokee and can not vote there.

 There is a park at both ends of Columns Drive, you don't expect traffic???  Give me a break.  I think I would rather have cyclists rather than cars whizzing down my street.  I live on Peachtree Battle and I see more bikes on my road in a day than Columns sees in a month.  I would not lobby to have it stopped, even if I hated cyclists, because it is a public road, not a private driveway.  Columns is a great road for cyclists, triathletes, etc. to do heart rate tests, LT tests etc, because it is flat, decent in length and without stops.

I guess I am an exception to your broad generalization about having bikes in my neighborhood and I think you might find that most everyone else here would be as well.  But I only speak for myself and I don't live in Cobb.  If the homeowners decide to purchase Columns Drive and privatize the road and the parking lot of the National Park, then they can do whatever they want, but until then, they should share the road.  If that means voting for someone that would support equal access to the road instead of supporting someone that doesn't then I think it is the right thing to do of those in Cobb (maybe they can get evil bikers off of the Silver Comet Trail as well).

Good thing that we don't have to worry about Big John training at SCT or Columns.  One less person sounds good to me.   

There is so much crap in your post that I won't bother the rest of the group responding to your "points" (except maybe your spelling), I do hope your rant inspires people to vote for Ott for whatever reason they wish whether that would be thinking Thompson is a "bike nazi", thinking Ott is cute, or just because the rant was immature and annoying.

 Crucified?  Hardly.  You went WAY off topic with your message.  Reread your first few sentences of your original post.  They contradict one another.  And there is plenty of crap in the rest of your post.  I hardly think Neal's post was out of line with the thinking of several others on this board

Who is name calling?  You are the only one that I have seen drop the d-bag on someone.  And Neal of all people.  That probably cracked most of us up.  (I can see Neal shaking his head)

Bikers invaded a neighborhood?  Again absurd.  It is a PUBLIC road next to a National Park with a running, biking trail.  Anyone capable of cognitive thoughts would expect traffic to be in the area. 

Self-respect?  WTF are you talking about.  This is the kinda crap people are talking about.  Who knew the where I ride had ANYTHING to do with self-respect.  

If you don't think it is a good ride, that is fine.  No one is arguing the contrary.  But will you find me a place around town where I can to 2x30' intervals in z4.  I look forward to your response.  

Are you normally this insecure about things in life?  Do big houses and/or fancy bikes just bother you in general? 

Glad that you don't lose sleep over the fact that some of us occasionally train there.  I would be worried otherwise.

Finally...you are a bit back on topic.  If you think Ott is the better candidate, fine.  Make your case why and be done with it.  IMO, you should have left it there.  

. _ Homeowners by Chastain Park and Tanyard Creek park have this problem too. Just because it is public doesn't mean you can drive from miles away and be a nuisance. There are raids, parking tickets, curfews, and other such implements that the city/county do for the property owners in thatcase because they agree that people game the system and take advanatge of it. I'm sure if you lived by a park you'd love to see teenager having sex, or driving through your yard or being loud or whatever. you have every right to complain. In this case there were so many complaints that the county did something about it. That should tell you something. That's like calling somneone a douche bag and saying you can do it because of "free speech" (guilty)

Have you ever taken a logic class or do you understand causation and correlation?  

No one on here is saying criminal activity is ok.  Your examples are off the wall absurd.  If someone was driving through my yard, yes I would have a problem with it.  But if someone was cruising the street, keeping to themselves...and they have a LEGAL right to do so...then I don't have a problem with it.  In general, cyclists aren't being a nuisance.    

As for your accusations that it was cyclists doing the damage v. the general public keying cars or vandalizing property on Columns Dr, do you have proof of this?  Or did you just read it on the internet?
