Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Is it just me or do we really need the big expensive Inauguration tomorrow? Our country is broke! Trillions of dollars in debt, Congress threating to shutdown the government, stop paying our miltary and government programs, yet we can afford this ceremony. Why not scale it down, small private party at the White house and be done with it.

Agree. If the government wasn't spending money on stupid s#!t, it wouldn't need a bigger budget every year. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The peaceful and transparent election and transition of the President is a very important part of what has made this country great. I think its important that we do this out in the open, for all to see. Its not some backroom, done by the powers that be deal. We may have our complaints about the openness and transparency of the election process, but in reality, its far better than what happens in many other countries. Our traditions of the democratic process are important. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() How about people PAY for tickets/offsetting costs vs just the govt paying for everything? I understand the pomp and circumstance but then there is over the top |

![]() | ![]() I may lose my right wing nut job status, but I'm ok with the big inauguration ceremony. It's a historic event in the history of the world that a nation as powerful as ours hands over the reins peacefully. Maybe second inaugurals should be smaller or different (speak in front of the Lincoln Memorial) but I think this is a good thing to celebrate even when we may have voted for the other guy. Many countries leaders go into exile after they leave office so that they're not arrested or worse by the new president. I hear the mall lawn is completely re-sodded. Maybe they should've put down astroturf for the eastern-most side of the mall... |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, I wasn't invited! |

![]() | ![]() Correction, they resodded the mall, but they then covered it with plastic covering. Turf I tell you turf. |

You can also buy a package "deal" for $50K to all the events. Taxpayer money funds the swearing-in ceremony/parade only. It doesn't fund all the balls and dinners and things. The government estimates it'll spend about $49 million on the event this year, which is the equivalent of someone making $100K a year foregoing a single bottle of Diet Coke to "save money." |
