Is it crazy to consider a half 2 months before a full as a warm-up. And if so, is it crazy to consider a half 2 months after a full as a cool-down?

The full will be my first.

Nope, a half is a good test of your fitness and a great training day for a full IM. Also a good place to check out your nutrition strategy. I am doing IMWI on 9/13 and I did a half in the end of July.

Depending on how you recover after your IM, a half a couple months afterward might not be a bad idea... I won't be doing that, though. (!) I'm going to be absolutely FINISHED training for a little while. Laughing

My training plan calls for a HIM 8 weeks out from my IM, so that's what I'll be doing.  Are you going to follow a plan, or are you winging it?

Like Whizzzz, after the IM I don't plan on doing much and the thought of doing a HIM 2 months afterwards sounds like a terrible idea.  I'll be ready for a break as I've been busting my butt for the IM and not anything else but some rest afterwards.

I will be following a plan, still researching which one though. I just learned that there are two halves within driving distance of my house - one 2 months prior to lake placid and one 2 months post.

I would say recovery is the important part 2 months out. You will probably be approaching peak hours shortly after that. Spending several days recovering could be costly. Good for a long training day, but race intensity might not be a good idea.

Use the day for getting an idea of how nutrition will work but be careful, a HIM and a full are two entirely different animals.

Considering how many pros were at Timberman to do it as a warm up for Kona, I would say it's about a perfect warm up.

I am doing a HIM on Sept 27 and an IM on Nov 22...plan is to take the HIM like a long training day.  Focus on staying around 150bpm and getting in all the proper nutrition.

Speaking of the Nu...just got an email about the logistics of Las Vegas HIM and there will only be 1 stop on the bike at mile 18 with water and gatorade.  Wondering how I am going to manage with only one stop.
