Who had the over/under on Manziel being the next Ryan Leaf?

How glad am I that I grew up in a time without cellphone cameras?  And not in the public eye. And with guidance, expectations, and responsibility from my parents. 

Can the over under be negative?  ;-)

The only difference is Manziel has more talent than Leaf, but if he doesn't continue to work hard on developing and maintaining that talent he'll get smoked before the season is halfway through.

I wonder what kind of clauses he has in his contract about his off field antics.  I know the contract had guaranteed $6.7M, but if he winds up in jail I'm sure there's an out.  No matter how much they pay him, there's a good chance he'll be homeless and broke in 10 years tops.

Not to mention it's probably illegal to take a picture of some dude in the bathroom.  Reasonable expectation of privacy and all.

I don't mean to be pissy... I guess there is no Tebow to talk about, so it is going to be Johnny Football 24/7 for the next 6 months. Can't wait to hear about his next bowel movement. Man... I think I miss Tebow....

BTW, that original one is from earlier in the summer.  And there is one of these every year.  

The thought crossed my mind that his career might be as long as Tebow's. 

I think he is a better QB than Tebow, but all his shenanigans just might be too much for teams to deal with and can't find a spot after a couple years.

I think you're giving Manziel way too much credit by comparing him to Leaf.  

Keep in mind we're talking about a guy who was passed up by 20+ other teams.  Including Cleveland...TWICE.  He's a joke.  He's always been a joke.  Jokes are funny though, and I will continue to watch and be entertained.

The interesting thing to me about this Tebow, Leaf, and Manziel discussion is however limited Tebow was on talent he made up for it with attitude and work ethic. He appreciated the huge opportunity and behaved accordingly. Now he's got a TV gig that could lead to a very lucrative career. Leaf's in jail and who knows where the Manziel  train wreck will end up.

We may not know, but unfortunately we have a pretty good idea. Sadly enough, I think I've seen this movie before...

Exactly. I will say he's entertaining as heck though. How 'bout that middle finger to the Redskins sideline? His "cash phone" just got a little slimmer. Here's the thing though...all the nonsense won't matter if he can hit receivers consistently. He's got the legs. If he's got an accurate arm, nobody will care about the "look at me" antics.

Right now that is the BIG IF!.  He looked horrible last night.

You're right in a sense that teams will put up with antics if you can still produce on the field...of course if you don't have a better option to choose from, which Cleveland doesn't really have right now.  I actually hope Manziel starts, and has some success this season because it is fun to watch.  I know he'll never have the type of success that some people hope he will (franchise QB).  But defenders can't light him up if he's on the bench...so yeah...I want to see him on the field.  

I'm a Manziel fan....you only get to be young and stupid once....and I like the little guy.  That being said, he's got more lessons to learn, but there is no doubt the kid is a gamer.  I like those guys.  I'm hoping he makes it.  (no, I won't bet the farm)
