I am going in for an aero-fit at the LBS next week.  What is the protocol for tipping the fitter?  I would assume that you don't tip, but I have been suprised before...  Let me add that I make my living in the restaurant business, so I believe in tipping, but think it has gotten out of hand as of late with all sorts of people expecting tips for services that you wouldn't think of (trash, etc).  I want to make sure that I don't come off as a complete Fred though...

I've had several fits and never tipped the fitter...though, two of mine were at the BCSM...which is like a doctor's office so I wouldn't think of it.  Can't go wrong bringing the dude a six pack though!

My fit cost $200.  I tipped $0.  If that makes me a "Fred," so be it.

Pizza and/or a six-pack or two.

I didn't tip at my fit. I tip generously where appropriate, but I reserve tipping for people who I suspect are paid at a rate that suggests that they are working, in part, for tips.  I don't put $150 for a 90 minute fit into that category.  (I'm not complaining about the price -- I was very pleased with the result; worth every penny.)

I didn't tip...

I might slip a mechanic a couple bucks for a beer if they do a good job tuning my bike...

I didn't tip for my bike fit...although it was included with the purchase of my bike.  I felt that spending well over $3k on a new bike and accessories was more than enough...especially since the bike fitter was the owner of the shop.
