Hi, I am new to this whole triathlon thing. I just registered here a few days ago. I am riding a mountain bike right now but am wondering where I could get a cheat bike at. I don't want anything expensive right now, I haven't even done my first tri yet. Thanks for the help.

Welcome!  Consider looking for a used bike - check ebay, your local bike shop, or see if there is a local cycling or tri group that lists things for sale.

Good luck in finding a bike.

Or consider using your mountain bike this year and see how things go.  Many people do that.

well if you want a cheat bike you could put an engine with nitro boosters on it - but that might be a bit much so i would say go for a good second hand road bike with a shimano groupie. Welcome to the site!

Hi Chad, and welcome to the site. I'm doing my first tri in August and will be using my mountain bike for it. (will put NEW bike on my list for Santa this year). I started out with the mtn/bike tires and just changed to road tires last week and cut 10 minutes off my 20K!!! So if you don't have a load of cash to spend this year on your bike I'd recommend this option too. Mine were $ 17.00 each, $45.00 altogether for installation.

Good luck with your training and your tri.

Darlene

Welcome to our little site - you sound just like me, only I started last year with a mountain bike. Unless you have money burning a whole in your pocket, I would put road tires on (I just did and it really makes a difference). I had about 5 pounds of slime in each tube, and the lighter tire/tube really makes it easier to move along. Take off all the junk (kickstand, etc) that you don't need, and just ride the &**%^% out of it. Once your training gets you to a point that your bike is slowing you down, then you will be ready for a new/used road bike.

Good luck, let us know how your race(s) go.

Welcome Chad! If you're like the rest of us tortured souls on here, you'll soon be addicted to the training you're doing. Then you'll need a new bike, new shoes for the bike, new clothes (because of the weight you've dropped), new running shoes, new swimming shorts, then a Tri suit....and on and on it goes! But...you can get by with none of that stuff (except the right running shoes) to get you going to your first few races. Enjoy the forums here and getting to know everyone...and most of all, HAVE FUN!
