It will be some time before they actually stop circulating but today is the last day the Mint will stop producting/distributing them.

It is going to be a bit confusing the whole round up down thing but I just got back from 2 months in NZ where they haven't had pennies or 5 cents for quite a while. So then the rounding is alot easier as it is up or down to the 10 cent not the 5.  Makes me wonder how long it will be before the 5 cent coin goes the way of the penny?

Now off to the pool so i can get away from the computer and the thread about the tri/wedding day

it's not that bad, is it?  Ends with 1 or 2, round down. Ends with 3 or 4, round up.

Just thinking about it not getting mixed up in American $ anymore. I think it was at the SF airport when a clerk at a fast food place was picking out the Canadian pennies saying they don`t take them.  Really? It's a penny ....

Yeah its a penny, and it is worth more than the US pennies sometimes....well its equal today ...but exactly! its a Penny!

Unfortunately there are these other numbers like 6 and 7, 8 and 9.  I don't envy cashiers right now.  I can see some angry consumers causing problems.
