So I'm about 9 weeks post shoulder surgery and am thinking that a 750m swim in Oct might be feasible...but I have little to no interest in mtn biking.  My husband on the other hand is a mtn bike fiend but won't swim or run......can you do the PBR as a relay?  I didn't see any prices or options for it on RedRock or Active.

Last year I emailed them and they said yes, we ended up not doing it but the hubby and I might try for it again this year as a relay (he's the mtn biker!). You can probably email them from the website

I sent them an email...nothing yet (if they are anything like I am, it could be awhile).  If you do end up doing it as a relay, let me know we can hang out while the husbands try to injure themselves.

Heh heh, PBR. I did it last year. REFUSE to do it this year. Any race that lists me as a DNF that I did not DNF will not get my money again! But honestly it was UBER FUN!!!

I plan on doing the PBR.  I am looking forward to mountain biking, hoping that I can put some of my moto skills to work.

Are the downhill trails plenty wide enough for passing????

There is plenty of room for passing in some spots. Some single track (mainly the downhills) but a few parts are doubletrack and I even remember people walking uphills, they'll tend to get out of your way but that was hard to pass. It's pretty crowded as its a small loop that you do twice but I was able to pass and be passed.

How technical is the course? I guess I could just trail run it and see if I'd kill myself on my mountain bike. My mountain biking "skills" are questionable (my boyfriend jokes that when I see a big rock I fall off my bike, which is not far from the truth).

You'd be FINE!!!!! Not technical! I mean it has some bumps but any recreational rider could do it for sure!!! We could do a pre-ride sometime soon if you want!

Oh word. That sounds cool! I suppose if I see any rocks I could do some cyclocross. I'd definitely be up for a ride at some point... maybe when it gets cooler.

I would be up for a pre-ride. I had plan on going out there and riding the trails a few times, but it would great to go with someone that knows the course. I am hoping that by getting a road bike, I will improve my climbing on the mountainbike. Downhill is my strong point.

I did the PBR loop about a week ago and the course was not that hard. The downhills are wide. But just one is wide enough to people to pass. I did it with my hard tail trek and it made it. I snapped a chain but I am also 300Lbs so most of you wont have that problem.

Jen's right PBR was awful last year. Jen never DNF, that like the sun rising in the west... PBR RD changed the course four time within the week of the race. The last one was the night before the race, talking about duhhhhhh!!!! Oh and the T-shirts wasnt all that great ;-( but I did get a box of guuuuuuuu

Anyways, I may not do the race this year but we'll see

FYI they are running 3 bike laps this year instead of 2.

Thats right Milton! I NEVER DNF!!!

3 bike laps???? NO WAY...not on a mtn bike...completely unnecessary. Why?

I am getting a wet suite before the PBR. I am thinking I will do the Nathans without.

And what is up with 3 laps? I just checked the web sight last week. 3 laps puts it at 15 miles. Damn long mountain bike ride.

So I've never riden a mtn bike in my life.....any hope that I would be able to suffer through 15 miles and NOT be the last person to finish?

Although, I've come to be more accepting of the end of the group as I get left in the dust on our Mt. Lemmon efforts.  Say we're going to mile 12....people pass me coming down before I've hit mile 6.

From the website:
The course requires a proper mountain bike or cross-bike

The fact they mention the cross bike makes me think they made the course a touch easier even. And now I want to do it even more... I lurve my cross bike.
