So..who's going and who all wants to meet up for a group pic? I'm not racing but I am doing on course support and will be bringing my camera.

I wanted to do around the bay last year as a relay...but my relay buddy backed out on me.  This year I was sure I'd do the whole thing alone....but my coach says no because it will interfere with other training.  I really wanted to do it, and know a few people who are going....Maybe volunteering would be fun.  My coach isn't allowed to say no to that.

Volunteering is a thankless job that I think every athlete in our sport should do at least once ot twice in their lifetime. It certainly makes you appreciate them a lot more when you've been in their shoes. That said..I don't know how the Bay handles race day volunteers..I know that have an army (well..Sea Cadet I think) out there come race day but I think they are signed up well in advance. They might have you working handing out food or something closer to the finish but I'd bet they'd be happy to have more help.
BTW kudos to your coach for reigning you in and keeping you on target..and double as much to you for following orders. Not what I expect from most triathletes (they never listen to their coaches..lol).
Anyone else coming to my hood?

I am in for my second year at ATB. It's a cool race.  Unfortunately I don't think i'll be sticking around for photo ops. I am arriving with an unusually large group of non-BT'ers and keeping track of them will be a handful! :D

Funny for me, a couple of my high-schol teachers run it every year ... and they are fast!!

Agreed on volunteering. they make such a difference in a race and runners/triathletes often barely notice! I volunteered at IM Canada when DBF did it.

How about posting race numbers? And if I see you out on the course I can snap one as you run past? Surely there is more than just JJ doing the Bay...where are you people hiding?

Not running it this year. I did do it last year and did not enjoy it so much. Had to walk the last 8km of it. I figured out after (very sore IT band) that all my training was done on a treadmill and hardly any outside before the race. The legs did not like the pavement after 5 months of treadmilling. I dont like training in the cold weather so I will not be doing it this year. Plus... it smells in Hamilton Yell

I am afraid I must correct on your last point. It SMELLED in Hamilton. Report earlier this week says the Stelco will be laying off another 1,500 workers...gotta think that means production (and with it smell) is getting cut way back. And hey..we resemble that remark. Just 'cause you had a bad run doesn't mean you need to 'slag' us.

I watched the movie Saint Ralph last night.  He runs this race back in the '50s.  Good flick.  I didn't realize this was such an historic event.  Isn't it hard on the lungs running down there by all those factories?

That's a great movie!!! I went to school in hamilton and have run ATB twice now.  It's a great race and has to be one of the more popular ones in the area - it sold out about two months in advance this year.

Honestly didn't notice if it smelled this year and it rained for most of the race this year so that was more noticeable than any smells.  The steel mills aren't running like they used to - i might be wrong but i think some may be closed .. . anyway, Ken can probably clarify.
