Subject: Middle Class Sucks (rant...)I work for a non-profit, with children. It's one of those great, fulfilling jobs where when you leave at the end of the day you know you've made a difference and you get up in the morning because you know you'll be missed if you don't show up. The trade off? The pay sucks and it's a lot of work. I'm ok with that.
So, I got a raise! I'm pumped about it, because it's been 3 years since the last one and it's a fairly significant one. I have one whole day of happiness!
THEN
I realize that this raise makes me "middle class". Yep. That means my student loan agreement, which was income contingent is no longer eligible for reduced payments. The raise gives me an extra $100 a month. The loan payment WAS $65 a month. The new loan payment is $269 a month. I WILL ACTUALLY HAVE LESS MONEY A MONTH NOW THAT I GOT A RAISE!!!!
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OHH. One more thing. Because the raise is retro-active, I'm responsible for retro pay on the loan, which is $400.
There goes the money I was saving for a new road bike
(being a brat. just ranting for a moment. tomorrow, the smiling children, sledding down the hill will make it much more managable. ) |
