Subject: IM 70.3 Training Program
This may sound like a crazy thing to do on my own but I'm looking for suggested HIM training programs, something online like a guide. I just graduated college and don't really have the funds to fully join a training group or get a trainer. I'm hoping to find
a 6-8 month training program that I can start after my last race this season. Now I do use this site and receive GREAT advice and also use my cousin who has competed in endurance races most of her life. So i'm not going into this completely blind but I do want to push myself with what I currently have.

My goal is to compete in the Muncie Man, in Muncie Indiana next year. I competed in my first sprint last weekend and have two more planned this summer. When I finished my race I had this weird feeling that I wasn't ready for the race to be over. I wanted to go longer (what?? Not weird at all lol). I want to push myself to go further and finish a 70.3. The end goal is to compete in IM Louisville. That won't be checked off for a couple years though.

Any suggestions on training programs??

Thanks everyone!!

-Reid

I used the free beginner plan on this site and it got me to the finish line of Muskoka 70.3. Have you checked out the site's plans?

I did! it looks like a good plan but over a little shorter of a period than I wanted. I think I could still do it though.

I’m using Fast-Track Triathlete by Matt Dixon. Liking it so far.

It has a preseason plan, 70.3 and 140.6 plan, and off season plan.

This would give you 32 weeks as each phase is 14 weeks.

Good overall information in the book as well regarding nutrition and other things.

I have The Woman Triathlete by Christina Gandolfo, which has been a great read so far. I know it has a sprint guide but I haven't gotten far enough in to know if she's got a plan for HIM or IM. I think it's more focused at shorter distances. I've been breaking down the first chapters and taking notes.

I second the beginner plan on this site. It got me through my first HIM in good form and in fact under 6 hours (5:53). The intermediate plan is also very good if you later want to pursue more aggressive goals. (Although it was so challenging that when I did it I ended up modifying some of the workouts because I was just getting too tired! ) By following a modified version of that I coached myself to a 5:31 at age 45 after about four years in the sport. As long as you are self-disciplined but willing to listen to your body and modify the plan when needed (that's a tough balance--I know), you should be able to meet your goals with without necessarily hiring a coach or joining a club.

buy matt fitzgerald's book-used/online from alibris

it'll cost a buck or two plus shipping (cheapest way to get tons of triathlon/running books to learn what needs to be learned)

https://www.alibris.com/Triathlete-Magazines-Essential-Week-By-Week-...

then pick a plan

I used it to complete my first IM-it works

I liked the IronFit book/plan for the half and followed it up with IronFit for the full I'm racing at the end of the week!

I have published several. Both in google docs and to add in Training Peaks.
Take a look.
