Philadelphia, south of New York and north of DC | Subject: Why are mass shooting murderers always called Gun"Men"? Why not Gun"Women" or Gun"Persons"? Every media outlet I know of uses the term Gun"Men" or Gun"Man", Well, I guess it makes sense because without exception as far as I can recall Why? For those of you especially who might think that gender is a cultural construct, What's your solution? |

Iron Donkey 38643 , Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Why are mass shooting murderers always called Gun"Men"? Probably because they need to save space since "scumbag that wielded a weapon that shoots" is too long, and "man" is a general term and shortened for "human" since it's not "huwoman". |

Honestly, maybe yoga might have helped the kid in CT. I like your thinking. Keep working the problem. I don't have an answer myself to the questions. I do wonder though, given that these murderers are always men, Edited by dontracy 2013-01-05 12:32 PM |

Subject: RE: Why are mass shooting murderers always called Gun"Men"? Women tend to be mass murderers and spree killers with poisons. Lavinia Fisher Dorothea Puente Velma Barfield Jeanne Weber Amelia Dyer Nannie Doss Jane Toppan Marie Noe Juana “La Mataviejitas” Barraza (but she strangled them) Women don't tend to use guns. They poison and knife them. |

TriToy - 2013-01-05 2:05 PM testosterone Certainly: Testosterone is a hormone which makes one more aggressive. Males simply make more of this hormone and, especially in their teens and twenties. Also, schizophrenia is about 40% more prevalent in males and onsets at that same age. Biochemistry likely plays a significant role. Edited by pitt83 2013-01-05 1:47 PM |

Back in my day, boys regularly took knives to grammar school. No one ever stabbed anyone. On our high school football team, half the team would take off one day from school each fall to go deer hunting. Teenage boys full of testosterone (football testosterone at that) were out in the nearby woods No one ever had a shooting accident. Everyone had a maturity about using dangerous things It's not like that anymore. What happened?

When you were growing up, how many of your buddies were on prozac? Paxil? Hell, Canada has blamed prozac on at least one murder: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/02/25/legal... Couple other things to think about Murders of all kind are down to the 1960s levels, y'know, when guns were available mail order with no background checks. If you're a loser and want to get your name and picture on the front page of the Washington Post, NY Times, LA Times and other news agencies for a week, take a guess what the most sure way to do that is? The media will ensure you live beyond your time. You didn't have a whole lot of people who would publicly faint at the sight of a gun and made sure it became a forbidden neat thing that now kids want to find out what all the fuss is all about. |

You missed the most prolific female killer of them all. That chick named Jessica Fletcher up in Cabot Cove, Maine was notorious...you really think she had nothing to do with the hundreds of murders she helped "solve?" On topic, I think gunman isn't alone in its old-fashionedness...I think I touched on this issue a while back in the manhole thread.

Subject: RE: Why are mass shooting murderers always called Gun"Men"? When I was 11 my friends mom would pack us a lunch to carry. We took a shotgun each and .22 riffle and went and played in the woods behind the farm. It's amazing we managed to go hike for miles, blast some birds and critters and still live to talk about it.

Seriously, what's causing young men to do these things? Possibly. Look at media today versus 50 or 100 years ago. Today it is instant and worldwide if the "story" is sensational enough. Combine that with a larger population overall and you have a higher number of such events reaching our eyeballs, even if the percentage isn't. |

Why settle for the singular? If God in schools = good, Gods in schools = even better! ...now, do we issue guns to these Gods...... |
