Stock prices are down. Investors expected more. Poor Steve Jobs -- can't win.

More will come with the next version, due out in three months at a lower price, thereby ticking off the “I gotta have it” buyers of this version.

Yeah but thats twice as thick, horrible screen, tiny keyboard and about the same price. (not to mention running vista or XP).

Mine is already ordered. 1.8 with SSD. Working at a mac shop has it's advantages :D

I'd wait a while before buying one. My wife has a Macbook she bought in August '07 and the optical drive (or something cool sounding like that) went out on her last week. She had to ship it off to have it fixed. When the DHL guy came to pick up the computer from the house, he said it was the second one he was getting that day (and we live in a low population area). I think it's a pretty widespread problem and I know this is blasphemous to some, but Mac's quality seems to have deteriorated some.

I would have to disagree with the macbook idea here. Having a random issue and having randomly two by a DHL guy doesn't mean anything.

That being said, all computers have issues sometimes. We service lots and lots of computers. There is not one company that is problem free and apple has better service then most. Having problems is the luck of the draw. What you need to know is that they are fixing it quickly.

Battery issues are known in the macbook (batteries are made by a third party) but optical drives are very rare.

We always get the new ones when they come out, it lets us be the guinea pigs for our clients and learn the new products. I would hold off if you are getting one for your personal use for a week or two after release to make sure there is no major issues.

Wait until the 2nd generation, but it is very pretty (I am sitting typing on my MacBook), 1st gen Apple products are riddled with more flaws than just about anything else.

I WISH I could pay $1800 for a laptop. Our Dell M90s (the anti Mac Airs, they weigh in at about 10 lbs) were around $3500 new.

Disagree all you want. I'm just relating my experience with the company. This is also the impression that I got from the phone service help and talking to the nearest Apple store. I'm not saying that macs are worse than PC's, just that I think there's an impression out there that macs are problem free, always work, etc. That's just not the case.

doublej,

I agree and said as much in my post that all computers have problems, including macs. Your post just came off like macs are horrible because you had a problem and another person in your town did too. But again, I 100% macs have issues as well as PCs.

Sorry if I came off like a jerk. Didn't mean to.
