While the tools on BT are some of the best I've found, esp for free, I was wondering if there was a service (or even if BT did it at some of the pay levels) that intergrates your training calendar with say google calendars?

I think it'd be most useful for seeing what's coming up at a glance, and mobile access.  Ideas?

Good question. And if you don't mind me maybe tagging something on to this. It seems like MANY users also have a Garmin 305. Maybe there could be a way to link/integrate the Garmin training calendar as well?

Every time I download the garmin, it goes to the garmin calendar, then I have to load it all by hand in to my BT logs.

BTW, BT is my only source for logging my training and is indispensable to me. So THANKS BT!

1 - We've a couple requests for an export to the iCal format. It'll happen, but I'm not sure when. I use Google Calendar for my day to day too.

2 - Garmin interface: I'm actually taking a short break from working on that very thing as I type this. I got my prototype version to connect and talk to my Forerunner 305 a few minutes ago.

First there's going to be an 'Upload Route' function in the Route Tracker, then a separate 'Upload Workout' into the Training Log (the multiple workouts for one sport in one day has to get finished and confirmed as stable first* because this will build on it) then a 'Download Route to the Garmin' and then at some point we'll have a 'Download Workout' to the Garmin. That last one is going to be a huge piece of work so don't expect it anytime soon. The basic uploads from the unit are definitely coming though.

*this is very close to being released.

Sweet. Saves me from having to write it myself. I've got limited coding experience, and am sure whatever I came up with would not hold a candle to what yall offer.

If I can be of any help, testing, etc, let me know...

Google calendar user here, too and would LOVE an export to iCal format.

In fact, just Monday I exported the HIM plan, massaged the data in Excel and imported into google so I could see how little a life I would have once that started.    Not an ideal solution, but I had time to kill on an airplane and it ended up working out okay.

And - I will be a willing guinea pig if you need testers for this.

I just exported my BT Plan "Sprint Bridge to Oly" to a CSV file, massaged the data (created 4 separate CSV's - Swim, Bike, Run & Strength) each with the Column Headings Date, Subject, Description & Start Time.

I created a new google calendar (named Tri Training)  and imported each of the CSV's.

Now  I have a training calendar and I can easily schedule the time of day for my training ahead of time.
This is especially cool because i have other calendars that I can overlay to make sure everything fits okay.

For the data.

Subject (for the swim spreadsheet) = Concatenation of some text and the data from the Swim Time, Swim Distance, Swim Units cells

Example:
1. Create a new Column with the Heading "Subject" (Column D)
2. Enter the formula in cell D2
=CONCATENATE("Swim - ",B2," Minutes, ",C2," Yards")

Where
B2 = "Swim Time" (extracted from BT Plan)
C2 = "Swim Distance" (extracted from BT Plan)

Example RESULT: Swim - 40 Minutes, 2000 Yards

3. Control-D to copy the formula to all cells in Column D
4. Once that is done, copied column D and pasted (paste as values) to a new column
(Edit, Paste Special, Select Values, Click OK)

5. Then I deleted all of the original columns (Swim Time, Swim distance, etc - as well as the column D with the formulas)

There are a bunch of extraneous columns of data that should be removed to make it easier to work with, however they won't effect the import because the headings don't match anything that google calendar is looking for.

Do the same with Bike, Run & Strength Calendars, copying the columns for each to a new worksheet.
Copy the "Date" Column for each and the Time, Distance and Comments Columns of each sport (ex. "Swim Time", "Swim Distance" and "Swim Comments")
Each worksheet must be saved as a separate CSV file (Ex. SwimCal.csv)

Description (for the swim spreadsheet) =  "Swim Comments" Field

I created a column with the heading "Start Time" and just did a Control-D for all rows with a start time for each sport (6am for swimming for example) - this way they don't import as "All Day" Events and i can move them around in the Google Cal GUI easily.

I love this. I'm going to try to automate a little, maybe using google spreadsheet if i can, and then look at doing something similar for a nutrition plan so that i can schedule when to shop and what to buy and when to cook. Because i always know when i want to eat, but i don't always have the food i need or the time to prepare it.

From our user survey poll that is still live, you have overwhelmingly (and too much surprise to us) wanted this feature.  It's actually a simpler project for us so we hope to have this in the next few months.

Question for everyone interested in this: Workout Details or No?

The iCal export makes all the sense in the world for scheduling purposes, but I'm not seeing the utility of including anything beyond Sport/Volume/Distance.  I live and die by my Google Calendar, for the past couple years part of my Sunday evening routine has been putting my workouts for the next week on there, but I don't see a point to having the workout details in there. Doesn't seem like a particularly good format for viewing said details.

Thoughts?

First off, this is awesome.

Secondly, I could go either way. Whether it has details or not it's not critical. Sure, I'd like it, but I don't have to have it. I can settle with putting in a 1hr window of running 6mi, at least that way it's on the calendar.

Lastly, we're talking iCal here, yet several of us use google calendar. Aren't they two seperate beasts? Either I'm doing something wrong, but I can't seem to get my iCal (imac) to talk nicely to my google calendar (which definitely isn't a BT problem)...

Thanks!

iCal is the defacto standard format used to share calendar data. It's also the name of the Apple Calendar program, hence the confusion. Two different things.

If you go to your Google Calendar and click on "Add" under "Other Calendars" a box labeled "Add by URL" will appear with a note that it has to be in iCal format.

Is this much closer to being ready? It's a real nice idea.  I'd love to be able to (relatively) easily populate Outlook or Google Calendar and bring it over to my iPhone...

x2.  although the BT iPhone app does help bridge the gap a bit.

Has someone managed to get this to work? If so can you explain how to do it - step by step.

Thanks

To get your feed address, go to  Settings -> Training Log Settings -> Calendar SyncCopy the web address in the text box and paste it into your calendar program.

I'm not getting anything over to my Google calendar with the ics feed...it's only 182 bytes in size?  Can that be right?  My January "planned" log is blank because of multiple injuries, and then it starts the couch-to-sprint program in early Feb.  How far ahead does the Google integration go?  Thanks, Mike.

Thanks, Mike.  I ran a test planned workout today and it synched.  However, it doesn't pull the scheduled workout time or duration, and you can't move or edit the entry in Google.

I guess a workaround would be to create an additional calendar and copy it, so it can be edited.

It does pull those details, you have to click on the item in Google Calendar to see them.
