Age Group Rank = 161/162
Pre-race routine:

Typical pre-race breakfast (Myoplex shake, banana, gel pack, lots of water and vitamins).
Event warmup:

I found a quiet spot in the woods and did about 20 minutes of stretching and Taijiquan. Today it helped more than usual to have something to clear my mind and help me focus on the task at hand. Plus, it was a nice cram session for this afternoon. I also took a gel packet and drank some Frankendrink.
Run
  • 42m 59s
  • 2.9 miles
  • 14m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Came in second to last, with a sprint finish between the two of us. Hell yeah, I actually raced. Even if it was for a grand total of 48 seconds :) I started off a little fast, but I managed to pass some people going up the hills (but then they passed me on the flats again). According to the Race Director, there were about 162 people doing the run.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I felt I did the best I could today. I'll just keep putting in quality miles and I'll get faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Climb in through the other side of the truck (some numb-nut parked right up against my driver's door) to race over to my mom's house to shower and change for my belt test. Drank another Myoplex shake and washed it down with some more Frankendrink.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The hills :)

Event comments:

I got to meet Jake and Levi the Wonderdogs. www.wonderdogjake.com

Frank,

Congrats on a good run and on "racing" to the finish.  That is so cool, you must have been pumped.

Thanks everyone. Even though the "sprint for second to last" was cool, the best part was definitely Jake and Levi the wonderdogs I'll do this race again.
