Sunny
Total Time = 1h 39m 34s
Overall Rank = 115/184
Age Group = W30-34
Age Group Rank = 6/11
Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal, applesauce, small coffee, water. Arrived in plenty of time, set up transition, said hello to the team.
Event warmup:

Leg stretches, short swim.
Swim
  • 10m 58s
  • 587 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

Man...I just went for an open water swim on Thursday. Today however, my goggles decided to leak, the entire time. Stopped twice quickly to adjust. After turning the last big bouy, I headed straight for shore, only to find that I had to make a big correction to the right to keep one more random buoy on my left. (?) This didn't make a whole lot of sense, but I rolled with the punches. When I reached shore, there were three large men just standing there. I had to push past them (politely) and run up the mat.
What would you do differently?:

New goggles, more OWS training (starting a group next week).
Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

A little slow for me. Skipped sunglasses b/c my face was still so wet they were fogging up - maybe put them in my pocket for later?
Bike
  • 49m 30s
  • 12 miles
  • 14.55 mile/hr
Comments:

Never felt I got my groove on today. My shoes are too small and I think I need either new cleats or to have them adjusted; my heels flipped around the whole time - lost power. Had a good attitude despite that I HATE getting passed. When did all the women decide to get triples again?
What would you do differently?:

Practice, new shoes/cleats. Muscles felt good, but lacked overall power.
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

OUch...charlie horse coming off the bike...needed a good 15 seconds to let it relax.
What would you do differently?:

More salt on the ride.
Run
  • 36m 5s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran with my handheld bottle - I need to learn to ditch this thing! Felt horrid the first .5 mile, then settled in to a mostly running pace, walked a few times during mile 2 b/c of another charlie horse cramp. Mile 3 was picking up speed and feeling positive (why does it always take me this long to feel good in my runs?
What would you do differently?:

Practice, practice, practice. More salt, learn to ditch the water bottle.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch, see friends, should have gone swimming, but ended up hanging out, watching the kids' race and getting food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training...I've been pretty distracted and making excuses. : (

Event comments:

Excellently organized (again)...Nice work, Charlie! The volunteers are always so helpful and friendly. I love the scale of this race, but I wonder if it should be capped at either a smaller number or feel good about its popularity and grow a bit (more transition racks?). The food was great, and I always love the raffle. The commemorative hat was blue this year - very nice! Random suggestions: more trashcans near transition, recycling!, one more healthy dish option - more veggies like corn on the cob or fruit salad, and lastly, considering permitting us to rack our bikes via the seat (I think you can actually fit more per rack this way!).

Nice race.  I hate the hand bottles too.  I use a belt that keeps my hands free and more relaxed.

You should be proud.
