Subject: RE: Anybody DVR the NYC Tri this weekend?louamerica - 2008-07-31 9:48 PM 1st Timer in NY - 2008-07-31 5:46 PM condorman - 2008-07-31 12:13 PM 1st Timer in NY - 2008-07-28 10:27 PM rtocco - 2008-07-28 1:29 PM I think it is on ch. 9 on 8/3 Ralph is correct. Set to air from 5pm-6pm. DVR is set, maybe I'll make copies if for no other reason then to antagonize the Copyright police of this board who ran me out of town after the Kona DVD debacle. As an Intellectual Property attorney, I'll take your case Pro Bono... [Intentionally take OP off topic, but..] Just out of curiosity, what is the law on this? If I make 1 or 2 copies and give them away to friends free of charge, is it still illegal? I'm guessing yes, but how is it any different then giving away a CD/DVD (or is that illegal too)? (The original Kona DVD thread never did reach a legal conclusion, more of a Don't ask, Don't tell conclusion). I'll pay for the consulation in NYC Tri/Kona DVD's. [Back to OP] You'll be fine distributing copies to all of us .. as long as you dont "show" it for money or charge us money for the content.. but we can send you the $1.50 for mail and cost of the cd.. where shall I send it ? Don't worry about the postage. Let me make sure I DVR it first. I'm not worried about breaking the law, I'm going to go ahead and record and burn it anyway, I was more curious for my own general knowledge. Are you an IP/Copyright lawyer like condorman? It makes sense that as long as I don't charge, then it's okay. But isn't this what Napster was doing, file sharing among "friends" for free? While I realize it was on a massive scale, the concept is the same. I'm sorry for killing the OP (we alla gree the NYC tri is on Sun 5p-6p), but since Condorman said he was an IP lawyer, and my aforementioned Kona thread never did get a legal answer, I was just curious. |
