Subject: How spur-of-the-moment have you been... Have you ever signed up for an event at the last minute? I have a close friend who is infamous for signing up for events at the last minute, often the morning of the event. She dragged her feet and missed out on a local tri this year that filled up before she made up her mind.
Since I DNFed my second tri last Sat., a neighbor suggested I do a tri at Pinchot State Park which is next Sunday. I usually like to sign up for things as early as possible, so this is unusual for me. I found another sprint tri I want to do at the end of Sept., which leaves me lots of time to prepare. But now this Pinchot tri, only 5 days away, is starting to gnaw at me. I did this course as a duathlon back in May, so I'm familiar w/the course. Didn't do the tri at the time because, 1 ) I was still swimming impaired and, 2 ) I don't yet own a wetsuit. Obviously won't need a wetsuit this time of year, and I would be breaking my own advice of swimming an event without having done the swim leg prior to the event.
Should I, or shouldn't I? I not worried about the swim, though I may not get to the lake prior to the event, and the bike leg has that killer hill. The swim is 3/4 mile double loop. One reason I am considering this is specifically for the swim. The tri in Sept. is in an indoor pool and, I can NOT believe I'm about to say this, it is only a 500 yard swim and I would like to end the season with an event that's a little more than just 500 yards.
