Subject: RE: Why do people do Ironman?Because I never want to look back at a time in my life and ask myself- "wonder if?"
It is so awesome to challange yourself to something that most people consider not only insanity but near impossible. The commitment, the motivation, the desire to over come obsticals - all this plus more that I received while training for my first Ironman have served me through all areas of my life. I believe it has given me a much greater appreciation for the things that people overcome in their lives by having the faith, the grit and the determination to succeed.
I love the internal challange. When I am training and when I am racing an event, there may be people who I am trying to pass on the bike or run down. But at the deepest level, it is all about me vs me. What negative thoughts can I push down and how much positive and confidence can I find within me? That is one huge reason I do an Ironman. That, plus, as someone else said, I love the look on someones face when I tell them that I have (and will soon be again ) swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles back to back to back all in the course of under 17 hours.....
