Buttercup ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Me: Bye! Have a great day! Learn lots! 10YO: Yeah, like that's gonna happen ... 14YO: So, I guess we're gonna have da sex in Biology class this year. Me: Oh. Yeah, I guess that would make sense. (Me immediately begin mentally preparing mini-lecture on why you can't teach the study of life without studying reproduction) 14YO: Did you study it when you were in Biology? Me: Ummm yeah, yeah they taught it. 14YO: What did you have to dissect? Me: What? 14YO: What did you have to dissect when you took Biology? Me: Oohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ... um a frog. I think your mom had to dissect a baby pig when she took it. 14YO: Will we have to kill it? Me? Um, no, I don't think the School Board made animal slaughter part of the curriculum.

My child has been back in school since the 11th of this month. My baby started the 7th grade. Today they (as a class) are heading up to the mountains to camp for a couple of days and do "team" building activities. I can't wait to hear what they've done ... I am sure it will involve hunting down their own food .. in a peaceful way of course. Gotta love that Montessori schoolin' and such! Actually, I think they didn't tell you, sis, that they will each receive a firearm with one bullet. What happens in the mountains and desert, stays in the mountains and desert. I think Trixie was secretly training her. |

500+ freshmen ( and a bunch of new faculty) showed up on campus over the weekend. I got to lecture 45 of the kids about the importance of not lying, cheating, or plagarizing yesterday. You're not in high school anymore..we'll catch you and you won't like it one little bit. First reference desk shift tomorrow Here we go again....(I like it). I never got over the feeling that I ought to be in school when late August/Early September rolled around, even after being out of school for years.

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My oldest starts all day kindergarten at Montessori school next Wednesday, and my youngest starts preschool 3 mornings a week the next week. Everyone keeps asking me if I am sad about it. Should I feel guilty that I am not sad? They both thrive in school, and I am looking forward to some kid-free time for the first time in nearly six years!! ![]() |

Who cried harder when you dropped him/her off at preschool - your wife or your child? Oh my wife. My son is very independent (at least our oldest). He didn't even want mom to walk him into class for the first time! He was very good on his first day though. So much fun ![]() |

I am excited to have some time to myself. I am planning on going out to lunch. By myself. With a book. Not a kid book. Nice. How about you? |

Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My girls started last week (K & 2.) My youngest started pre-school today. What did I do with my free time? Spied on him. Seriously, after the parent meeting I could see his class through the glass door. They were in the hallway getting ready to go on the playground. I drove my car over to that area of the parking lot and watched him play for a few minutes. ![]() |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh Happy day.... schools are back in session. I never feel guilty about getting my kids to school! I am looking forward to when Iz goes next week. here first school only 2x a week for 3 hours each day so not much but man am I looking forward to 6 hours a week with no child! It's been almost 9 years since i was childless... Yesterday was our first day in the public school and I saw parents dragging children, hysterically crying (child and parent)... I and my kids were like "why are they crying, it's school - fun stuff!".... now the fact my kids didn't off the bus till 530 did not please any of us (school let out at 345, buses had to service a school prior to ours so they were 1 hour late getting to OUR school). My guys had exactly 20 minutes of play time before bath and bed. Today they are car riders! |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My son started middle school last week. Second day in he wanted a ride to the bus stop, it's less than a quarter mile away. He got told to suck it up and walk and if he complained I'd drive by on my way to work and call out from the car "come give your mommy a kiss". He walked quite willingly after that. |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It's weird to not be going back into school...been doing it every september for the last...nearly 15 years of my life. It is actually terrifying to see the freshers beginning to show up. They look so young! They look so full of life! Maybe it's my laptop tan, maybe its dissertation stress, but part of me wants to push them down the hill. I'm out of school...possibly forever. Holy. Carp. *mumble* tiles....tiles...*mumble* |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Medusa_Ann - 2008-08-26 10:59 AM They both thrive in school, ![]() That's awesome. Very cool. You should absolutely not feel guilty. The people who should feel guilty are the ones that ignore their children all summer and then yell at their backs as they walk into school, "Thank GOD, now I don't have to deal with you anymore, you are their problem!" Um, yeah, witnessed that and versions of that far too often. I never once doubted that my mom loved me and my brothers very much - and one way (of many) she showed that was recognizing that we were ALL a lot happier with some separation. We all went to excellent day cares, then off to school each year quite happily. I've heard stories of parents who cry for days at the beginning of every school year and wonder why it is that they have no life outside their children, and just how healthy that is for everyone involved. Missing them, of course. Sobbing because they went to school for six hours? Whoa. |

Any best on how many parents are crying??? I have NEVER gotten that. I was excited for my daughter when she went off to school a few years ago and feel the same way for my boys. My 5 year old NEEDS time away from annoying 4 year old brother. Everyone needs separation, it helps them grow. |

Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I didn't cry yesterday, but I did have tears in my eyes. They were happy tears though. I was just so proud of my youngest, it was tear jerking to watch him go off on his own and not look back. |
