Subject: RE: MN people: check MPR 89.3 - THE CURRENT!!!brand spankin' new npr affiliate. this makes there was a wonderful alternative radio station here years ago that played an amazing range of music. it was bought out by another station that eventually turned it into pop top 40 (just like every other station out there ). there was some blues/jazz/bluegrass on the classical station, but now it (the classical station ) will be strictly classical (which i think is a good thing ). in the last 7 years, all i've ONLY listened to classical or news/talk radio (also npr/mpr/bbc ). have felt increasingly out of touch with new music, and didn't realize how much music from my pasted i missed hearing. our cd collection covers a lot of ground. hank williams sr. to portishead to bela fleck to yo-yo ma to edith piaf to offenbach to stan getz to they might be giants to the chieftans to ciba matto to digable planets to taj mahal to cocteau twins to ruben gonzalez to django to ween.... a little bit of almost everything. we love music, so i'm overjoyed to be hearing new tunes that i otherwise wouldn't have known about. i swear, the only new music i was exposed to in the last few years was from either friends or films.
