Subject: RE: FTP test on road or trainerDan, as we discussed already I vote road for your first FTP test and then do another test maybe a week later on the trainer for comparison and for tracking winter progress if you'll be doing most of your winter training/testing inside. I wouldn't want to have any doubts how a trainer test might translate to the real world. If you think you're going to be racing on a trainer then by all means do all of your tests on a trainer, but you need to know what you can do in the real world. I agree with others that for winter, the trainer will be repeatable but if it were me I'd like to get a road test in before winter hits then switch to the trainer. Once spring arrives, hit the road again. As suggested above, I'd try to find a better road situation for your outdoor test. I'm spoiled, I have a beautiful stretch of river road with new pavement, little/no traffic, no intersections, and wind protection on which I can do my testing. |
