Subject: road bike tires
Thinking that it might soon be time for new tires for my Felt F5C. Before I visit the LBS, some questions for my peers...

-What sort of performance tire do you use/recommend? Currently have Vittoria Rubino Slick 700x23c tires that were stock with the bike.

-What sort of anti-flat tire do you use/recommend?

-Is there a good compromise performance/anti-flat tire?

-Do any of you use multiple sets of tires that you switch out between everyday training and events?

Appreciate your asistance.

Love my Continental GP 4000.  Only one flat in 2000 miles, Good handling wet or dry.  Have a separate beater tires  for inside trainer and rollers.  Race all summer on them.  Know they are older technology but I like them.

After being on BT for 4 years, seems that majority of folks use Michelin's Pro 2's which are replaced by Pro 3s.

I have 2's and will get threes next set. Last two sets have lasted more than 3K miles. This set I can't remember having one flat.

I like my Michellin Pro 2's but I will say they do get pretty slick on the wet roads.

I am a road racer here, I use the Michelin Pro3 (or 2) Race for RRs, Crits, and TTs. They work great, and they stick in turns. For training I have always loved the Michelin Krylion Carbon tires, they are just about puncture proof; I train on them here in metro Detroit (i.e. bad roads) and use them as my second set of wheels/tires in RRs and crits.

Best place to buy tires:

Having felt the road rash involved with overcooking a wet corner on Pro 2's, I will say that they SUCK in the wet. The Conti GP4000 is a good choice for all-around training and racing if you don't want to switch tires.

If you have a dedicated set of race wheels I'd use Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX's or Zipp Tangente clinchers (Vittorias with dimples). Problem is they're not very durable at all, so they're a race day treat at my tax bracket...

The best all-around trainer I've ever used is the Michelin Krylion Carbon, which has become tough to find, but you can get lucky.

Best prices for tires can be had at http://www.probikekit.com-- They sell out of the UK, but my orders usually get to the east coast in 5-7 days. Well worth the wait for the crazy low prices...

I'm liking it! I'm investigating all the choices, and I'm even going to throw in another choice as suggested by one LBS, which is the Continental Grand Prix 4-Season with Vectran. This one is another of the 'best of both worlds' tires that meld flat prevention with performance. The LBS also suggested the Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX's as dedicated performance race day tires.

I use cheaper/puncture resistant/heavier tires fcor training such as the michellin lithion and use  more expensive faster/lighter tires such as the Bonti xxxlite or michellin pro 3
