Comments: Overall ok. I got to the start line late so I couldn't make my way to the middle of the pack. Got stuck on a sidewalk near the very front and once the gun went off got pushed off the sidewalk and across the timing mat way too early, so I decided I had to run. First three miles were way too fast. Mile 2 was 7:47 -- ummm yeah, no where near the correct 9 flat or sustainable. Finally reigned things back in by mile 4, but had already fried my quads up. By mile 10, my quads were killing me, but not much I could do. Did my best to hold it together and tried to finish strong. What would you do differently?: Go out slow. The whole race plan was -- go out slow, hold it steady, then build over the last 3. Yeah, that didn't work, at all. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Say Erin and Chris as I was finishing. Trotted across the finish line, got my medal (which was actually very cool) and some water via the large water fountain). Got food with Erin (who had compelted her very first 5 K ever -- so cool) and then my stomach decdied it hated me. Spent way too much time in the port-a-potty. What limited your ability to perform faster: IMKY, weight, running frequency. My speed is finally coming back, but I really need to run 5 times a week. The 2-3 I was doing for IMKY didn;t cut it. Woke up late at 6:30 (ignored the first alarm). Rolled out of bed, couldn;t find what I wanted to wear, settled on a different shirt, made a bagel and sunflowerseed butter and got into the car.
Met up with Wrin at 7:15 a.m. Did the port-a-potty line, stretched a line, whined that it was cold and went off to the start line (Chris and Erin headed over to the 5K start).
