Subject: Mismanaged VAMDDCBTTCMCM post-race activities thread
Since the folks running in the MCM will likely be too tired to make decisions after the race, this thread is to suggest post-race locations to eat, drink, relax, or do whatever they want to do after running a marathon.  I have no experience in this matter, but I am good at creating mismanaged threads.  So, with that in mind, can anyone think of somewhere besides Crystal City Restaurant Sports Pub to go eat after they are done with the race?  I dunno, maybe somewhere in Old Town Alexandria?  Thoughts?

Sooooo, does that mean IHOP?  We need somewhere with beer and pancakes.

I think that anywhere in Crystal City is out, actually.  They are having some kind of post-race celebration on Crystal Drive, which means it is going to be packed.

I forgot that it's a MARATHON and not a 10k.. Breakfast probably won't be served anymore, which actually makes it much easier The race starts at 8, so at earliest we will be getting to lunch/beer at 1:30 or so.

yum, sweetwater.  there is one in merrifield, sterling, and centerville, I think.  Might be a bit of a hike for people.

Carlyle in Shirlington serves brunch until 3.

Although Shirlington is not really Metro-accessible.

Anyone have ideas for places off the Orange line?  Clarendon area?  There is Ireland's Four Courts, or Provinces, or something across from the Clarendon Metro.

Four Courts is right off of the Courthouse stop - they serve brunch til 2 or 3, I think - across the street from there is Summers, which probably has brunch as well. Near the Clarendon metro stop, there are I believe 2 other Irish-pub type places, plus Silver Diner (however, the latter does not have beer).

(4 Provinces is up in Falls Church and not near the metro)

thanks, I always get them mixed up.

I think Four Courts or Summers is our best bet... I prefer Four Courts... although it is smaller, I've been to both and prefer Four Courts.  They both serve brunch on Sunday until 2:30.

Maybe we meet at Four Courts, say as close to 1:30 as possible?

Thoughts, folks?

What about tailgating right at the finish line?  Our new USAT Club, Team TPR is buying a reception tent just for that purpose!

I don't think that'd be possible - apparently, the finish area is VERY crowded - see rollinsw's post in Tri Talk on the logistics - you can't get a car anywhere near there. Plus, at that point, you may just eat the food they have down there and go to the beer tents they are going to have (up until about 3 weeks ago, I was supposed to run this, so yeah, I've checked out all the information - not just trying to be nosey here).

Leafy, I will eat anything after the marry. we will be driving so you could tag alone with us after so do not worry about the location.  I would prefer a place where they would give us tons of bread right away.

Just tossing this out - I briefly mentioned this to NL, but...

I am not running the marathon. I am bummed and still want to participate in the festivities. I will be at church that morning, so will not make it down there until mostly everyone is finished (since I imagine the metro will be mobbed in all directions). I live very close to the West Falls Church metro station, where there is parking to take the metro station into DC that morning - it is free to park there on the weekends.

So what I propose is this - peeps can come to my house, open-house style. I will be done with church by 10:30, so that is plenty of time to make stuff (pancakes, french toast, eggs, sausage, bacon, etc, will have fruit, juice, coffee, beer, etc) and keep it all warm. Everyone chips in like $10 or whatever - that's about what it'd cost, at least for brunch and beer at 4 Courts. You can show up whenever you want and hang out for awhile. No waiting for food to be cooked and served. Kids and spouses and such are welcome.

If you are coming in from far-out in VA, I'm assuming most of you are going to park at the orange line and take it in. You cannot walk from the metro to my house due to where it dumps out on my side (on Rt 7), but it's literally a 3-minute drive, tops (maybe 5, if you go out the other side).

Anyway, just a thought. I don't mind (I used to help cook for my friends' fraternity's rush events and dinners and such) and I haven't had anyone over to my house since it's been redone, so it'd be fun. Plus my couches are all slip-covered, so you can spill crap and sit your stank a$$es on my furniture without remorse

Well I was hoping/figuring it would be something more 'in town' (I liked the Alexandria idea), but its probably not going to go that way. I'm not driving out of the way, something not easily serviced by Metro or my car after the race. Too much traffic, too many out of towners, and I'll be tired.

Oh well. Thanks for the effort NL. Nice meeting some of you that one time!

Unfortunately majority rules and the majority lives out there. I'll sit in my nice comfy couch and have some hot chocolate and burger after the race, its fine! (seriously)

I would offer up my place but I won't feel like being the hostess that particular day. I'll volunteer my place for Jingle 10k though!

Hey Homey, do you know it's like 5 miles between Arlington and False Church?  I think Alexandria is further away than  that...

I live on the east side: Crystal City/Pentagon City. Takes me 5 min. to get to downtown Alexandria.

And Metro is easy for me, see above stops. So my vote is Metro accessible, Clarendon is good.
