Subject: TYR vs. Speedo??? where should my loyalty go?

So I am in the process of making an EPIC lifechanging decision. Should I wear Speedo or TYR suits and goggles?

http://www.swimoutlet.com/product_p/11272.htm

That is what I currently swim in and I love the style but I hate how it fades and stretching in a month or two of swimming 4x a week. Which makes me think I should go to this...

http://www.swimoutlet.com/product_p/2848.htm

I had one of these in the past and they last forever!!! But don't look as cool, "Look good play good" is usually my motto.

Along those lines if you do a TYR grab bag suit it's only $12 compaired to the Speedo which is $15 (not much differance but it adds up).

So Ladies and Gentleman of BT I turn to you for suggestions! Which suits last longer and what do you use/like?

Which one provides better fit, long wear, and value? I'd go there.

The Tyr trainer I bought has lasted much longer than the Speedo trainer I didn't buy.  Therefore, I say Tyr, despite the awesomeness of the plaid.

Been happy with the tyr suit I have been training in the last 15 weeks.  No issues, in good shape.

TYR all the way, for all swim items.

I like TYR because 's Sporting Goods sells only Speedos, and buying at 's is comparable to purchasing from a dept. store that caters to the popular masses, vs. the specialty store that caters to the serious-minded pro and amateur athletes ie. all of us on BT.com. There I go, sounding elitist again, but I'd go w/TYR over Speedo anytime. My Speedo Jammers wore out much faster than my TYR Jammers also.

I was a die hard speedo fan for years and years and years - I'm now sold on TYR

Surprisingly, I also found that Nike makes a nice suit

Whichever is on sale....

I have been using the 100% poly suits from Nike, and LOVE them...

I really like my TYR trisuit. Fits well, works well. I dont think you can go wrong either way, but my loyalty swings more towards TYR as they seem to be big supporters of tri events. I can think of a number of triathlons with TYR as a sponsor...havent seen one yet with speedo there. That should count for something.

This seems to be a clean sweet for TYR. And you're correct JohnAgs3 I have seen them at Tri events and we should support the products that support our sport.

Black sheep here...i don't dig tyr products.  I like speedo & nike suits, and i like speedo goggles.  Bottom line, suit & goggles are some of the least expensive tri items you'll buy, so just buy something.  If you like it, you've found your match, if not, try the other.

That's generally my sentiment

I have mostly TYR stuff because that's what I just ended up with. I actually don't think I have any Speedo suits right now. I have one Nike suit. I've worn Speedo suits before and like them just fine. I'm not a "swimmer", so if I'm just wearing it in the pool for training, I really don't care.

I really tried to like the TYR goggles, but I have to say that I hate the strap system where the loose ends flap around near your eyes. For a similar price, the Speedo Vanquishers are a far superior set of goggles - clearer, straps that run to the back, and cooler looking.

I haven't tried the Tyr swimsuits though - I did have a TYR lycra jammer that worked great for 2 months, until I learned that chlorine rapidly degrades lycra the hard way (I was nearly seeing through the back panel!) I've since gone to a 100% poly suit by Reebok and it does seem much more chlorine-resistant. I haven't noticed any difference in the feel of the jammer in the water, although they are a bit harder to get on/off.

Have you ever tried the SPLISH suit, pretty popular with the pro's only $25.

When I was strictly a swimmer I wore almost exclusively Speedo wear.  All suits wear out quickly when you are swimming 7-8 practices a week and wear two suits at a time.  Now however I am a big fan of TYR suits and Nike Goggles...I do think the TYR hold up a little better.

Bought my speedo suit off the clearance rack, been using it all year, no signs of wear at all, pretty good $20.00 deal, I swim 3-4 times a week in it.  Goggles are speedo also but that is purely because they fit well, I tried 3-4 other kinds and they all let water in.

I would use Splish for races but just for training I need something that'll hold up well or something mucho cheaper.

I found $11 Grab Bag TYR briefs on www.swimoulet.com so I got that with a few types of goggles for racing and/or training. Then a dragsuit from www.swim2000.com that is also a TYR... I've got to match, sorry! haha

I've done speedo for a while and have had no complaints but felt like trying out something new. Thanks for all the input guy/gals.

I've always had good luck with TYR suits. Haven't worn many speedos.  Hate NIKEs...they seem to wear through the quickest.

I have always worn Speedo goggles. They seem to fit the best, and be the most leak-proof.

I have worn both Speedo and TYR suits. I like both, but am currantly wearing Speedos. They seem to fit me the best too.

It might be different for you though. I think it just depends on your body type. I am really short, so that might make a difference.

I've had bad luck with TYR. I want to like them but...I've had a water polo suit that lost its drawstring and eventually the inner lining, a pair of lifeguarding shorts that had its emblem peel off and get a crotch rip, a newer suit that lost its "TYR" logo in a matter of two/three swims (minor compared to the rest, but ugly looking), and a pair of TYR polarized swedes that fog up like nobody's business. I'm pretty disappointed - my next suit and goggles will probably be from Speedo. I've only had one suit from them, but it held up very nicely.
