Subject: RE: Running tights for running AND cycling?nscrbug - 2008-12-15 4:41 PM I've noticed that some people posted that they wear their long tights UNDER their cycling shorts. Would it not be better to wear the tights OVER the shorts? My thinking is that...you'd benefit from the chamois pad in the cycling shorts more, if there wasn't another layer underneath them, right? Plus, it just seems like it would be uncomfortable (to me), to wear something underneath a padded cycling short. Any opinions on this? I was about to mention that. Wearing tights under your cycling shorts (assuming you have real cycling shorts with a chamois and all) completely defeats the purpose of cycling shorts and is about a Fred thing as wearing your helmet backwards. For the uninitiated, the primary purpose of the chamois in your cycling shorts is the smooth surface and lack of seams, which prevents chafing. The secondary purpose is padding. This is why tri-shorts have a thin chamois. You can deal without the padding for one ride, but you can't deal without the lack of seams and smooth surface, or else you will end up quite well chafed. For those who doubt, wear a regular pair of underwear underneath your riding shorts, and then go on a nice long ride. let me know if you can even walk the next day, without screaming in pain from your raw red, chafed crotch. OUCH!
