I knew when I saw that he eased that A320 down in the Hudson that he was an Air Force pilot. Air Force pilots like to make nice, soft landings. A Navy pilot would've gone all aircraft-carrier crazy and put that sucker in quick and hard, just like ... nevermind. And I love that they call him `Sully.' GO AIR FORCE!

Thank God he wasn't a Steeler - he would have missed the river completely!

HAHA...I loved the analogy.  On flights, my husband and I like to guess whether the pilots are AF or Navy depending on their landing abilities.

You could be a jack of all trades and do them all - but then you would be a MARINE.

2. Department of the Air Force.  Check.

3.  Department of the Navy. Yep.

4.  Department of the Treasury Homeland Security (Coast Guard).  Affirmative

5. Department of the Marines.  see # 3 :)

And let's not forget the origin of the Air Force, aka the Army Air Corps.

I agree with your point.

Of course, I assume that your point was that the USMC is so proficient and self-policing, that we do not need a "Department" to control our every move.  We have one person do that for us, he is called the "Commander In Chief" and we respond to his call.

You're right, and as soon as they sober up, they will probably come and help.

Full disclosure: My Dad was on an Air Force bomber crew for 22 years.

I was guessing if he was a Navy pilot he would have actually circled back to LaGuardia and landed the plane on the runway. (just being overly proud of my Navy heritage).

Haha. Either that or he would've tried to find a spot on the ground to land. Navy pilots hate getting wet. It ruins their pretty white uniforms.
