I was thinking about how unprepared i am for the race in a couple of weeks. Therefore, i think i need to swim and bike.
How about an OWS at Mary Alice Park on Sat. June 20th, then we can ride the IG route. Perhaps even a little t-run!
Mr. Corn will come out with us to spot from the shore. Any other spotters welcome too!
Start time say 830 am.
Will post specifc address and directions tomorrow.
Anyone interested?

I was already planning to swim at mary alice saturday morning, but i am starting a little earlier (8AM) because i need to be done by 9:30AM.  I was planning on doing a bike after, but not really the iron girl course. Isn't the bike course fairly far away from mary alice? were you planning on driving between the two or riding?

I might come out for it depending on how long you plan to ride.

We did a swim and bike last year on the IG course.  I think we swam from somewhere else and was able to ride the course right from wherever we swam.  Can't remember the name of the park but I am sure we could do a BT search and find it.

I most likely would be up for at least the swim.  But we may want to reconsider where to swim.  I went to Mary Alice recently and it was very commercialize since the water level is up.  Granted I went in the afternoon but they have ropes out and you're not supposed to even swim out to the buoys.  I wouldn't have at that time cause there were tons of boats out there and not safe.

LTF masters coach swims from somethere near there - Overlook or something like that and says it's great.

Jamie - is the swim location set in stone?

I was trying to remember where we swam last year and then rode right from that place onto the IG route. I thought is was MAP, but maybe not. I will try and search for it. Unless someone else can recall the name. It worked out well and did not get crowded until we returned from the bike ride.

Ok, i looked back at my logs,
we swam at West Bank park and then rode from there out onto buford dam hwy.

Is that still a good place to swim?

Here is a link to the thread from last year http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=117858&posts=19&highlight=Iron girl&highlightmode=1#M1453501.  I have a call into the US Army Corps of Engineers who management the lakes.  I did check their website and this is a swim location still - I'm betting it's way better than last year.  Looks like the swim area is about 4-5 miles from the Iron Girl Course.  When we did it last year we did not actually go onto Lake Lanier Island and it was about a 20 mile ride.  Also, if you go to the link above Jonathan mapped out the ride and has an attachment to upload it to your garmin (if it still works).

The park opens at 8 am and it's $4 to park.  Here is the address just in case we want to go there:
Address is: 3500 Buford Dam Road, Cumming, GA
Directions if coming from 400:
Exit 14 and you will veer right
Turn LFT on Market Place Blvd (I think it's first light and there is a Home Depot there)
Turn RT on Buford Dam Road and follow signs to West Bank Park

I'll post when I hear back from the Park guy.

Just talked to the Corp of Engineers guy and he said it's a good place to swim.  He said it's a cove and we could either swim to the No wake or boat bouy or there is campground that we could swim to and back.

We swim at West Bank park. Start time 8:30 am since the park opens at 8. Unless you want to start at 815.
We can pick up the IG route from there and can avoid going into the Lake Lanier Park. I will get the route and print out cue sheets for us.
Sound good?

Before the weekend i will PM you my mobile number.

The earlier the better on the swim - A couple of us have a 3 hour ride after and not sure where we're doing it.  May do the IG course if we can figure out how to add on without looping.  But if we don't we have to drive and ride and with this heat the earlier the better.  Let's meet there at 8 and get swimming if that works.

Update - Logistically Karen and I are thinking of riding from the Bud Plant as we know routes up there to get us a 3 hour ride.  If we do that, we would swim at Red Top Mtn.  Would love to swim and ride closer to home but have no clue where we would ride 3 hours in Cumming.  Will post when we know for sure.

I have a 2:20 ride.  I'm hoping to be done with the IG course sooner of course and do another loop or something. i dunno.

my real goal is just to not get lost.

I dont plan on riding that long. I dont think we will get lost. But if you would prefer to go to Red top and then do the Bud plant ride, you could ride longer with other people. Its up to you. I am easy.

Gonna do the Red Top Mtn Bud Plant ride - hate to leave my own back yard but makes more sense logistically.  Have fun.

Could net a longer ride with this route:
http://www.mapmytri.com/ride/united-states/ga/cumming/561492121

I'll be there to swim, not looking for a very long OR fast ride, but 14 miles is too short for me.
