I haven't been working since Mid-March and I get tired of hearing the word "overqualified".. I swear if I hear that one more time I may punch somebody..
I am right there with you. I'm "overqualified" for jobs that I'll do for a paycheck (grocery, gyms, secretarial work, post office etc ) and I'm underexperienced for jobs in my field (hence why I volunteer at 3 different museums and 1 history institution ). The other problem is that people with 20+ years of experience are also gunning for entry level jobs, and I can't compete with that.
I know some people say "don't put your advanced degrees on an application", but I have a really strong objection to not putting my degrees on an application, like education is something to be ashamed of. I'm very proud of my degrees, and a lot of sacrifices were made in order to achieve them and I think denying that I have them is a bit dishonest/not really on.
