Subject: Need Race Recommendations
Hello Georgia! I need a race recommendation.

A bit about me. I am completing my first timed/sanctioned event this coming Sunday, Irongirl June 28th. I previously completed a staged triathlon in April for a Triathlon Training class that I took (January -May). The staged event was 800 meters/ 10 miles/ 2 miles. Irongirl is 550 meters/ 18 miles/ 3 miles.

I am looking for a few sprints to finish out my first season as a Triathlete. Today I registered for the Vidalia Onion Sprint Tri on September 19 (1/4 mile/ 12 miles, 5K)

I would like to add one more to the mix. If you have any advice to share with a newbie or any race experience on these courses, please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

August 22- Tri Peachtree City- 1/3 mile, 12.4 miles, 5K
August 29- Winnerville Sprint- .45 mile/ 15 mile/ 5K
September 6- Callaway Gardens- 1000 meters/ 18.6/ 8K

MY only concern with Winnersville is that the site mentioned the plans for water safety issues (Ie turning it into a duathlon.)

Now of course I know that is standard protocol when there are water safety issues but it almost made it seem like they were expecting it. Has this happened at that race before or are they just prepared and want to make racers informed.

You could look at the Acworth Women's Sprint (Lake Allatoona early August) and Lake Lanier Islands Sprint(Lake Lanier early October).  Both are put on by GA Multisports, USAT sanctioned and always have lots of beginners as well as the seasoned triathletes.  Both really good races!  Good luck!

GA Multisports also does the GA Veterans Sprint(mid-late August) which I've heard lots of good things about!  It might conflict with Peachtree City though...

Look up GAmultisports and Tri the Parks.  Both of those groups put on some good races.

This year I plan to do the Tri the Parks in Appling, GA.  600m/11.8/5k

Then I'll probalby do the PTC sprint

And in then the Tugaloo Olympic triathlon.

My last one will be the Tri Red Triathlon on St. Simons island.  I did the Turtle Crawl on Jekyll and it was really fun and fairly easy since it was flat which St. Simons should be the same.  The Tri-Red will be in October but the water temps might require a wetsuit.  It's a sprint also

I would do Peachtree City Sprint.  It's a really well run race and it attracts a huge field which makes it even better.

I would love to do the Acworth Women's, GA Veterans or the Lake Lanier but all conflict with my schedule. (Got to love the start of the school year. It puts me out of commission for the first 2-3 weekends in august plus some)

I did give thought to the Mistletoe Sprint in Appling on July 25. Decisions. Decisions

re:winnersville

It hink if you know south ga. you know there is a possibility of thunderstorms that could mess things up. They are just alerting to you to the possibility of weather interference.

if you want a small, well run local race thats not overcrowded, hit them up. the further you get from atl the less folks that come to the events.

Acworth and Vidalia and Peachtree are great.
Acworth is cool as an all womens race (wife is doing for 3rd year in a row)
I did Vidalia last year as it was their first year. Small field 140 total. Out in the middle of no where, but fun and very well run by Chris at DRC sports. Good course, fun bike and challanging rolling hill run. Took 2nd M40-44 in a sprint to the finish, fun all day.
Peachtree is just awsome, very well run, big field, over 1100. Great goodie bags and close to home!!
Looking forward to doing the Callaway Oly for the first time this year as I head into Ironman 70.3 Augusta Sept 27th.

my schedule rest of the summer:
July- Carrollton Sprint.
Aug- TRI PTC
Sept- Callaway Oly, Vidalia Sprint, 70.3 Augusta.
