Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I'm just a few short weeks out and of course I'm making my lists and starting to fret over what to pack in my various bags. I would love to hear what everyone has packed in the past...maybe it will give me some ideas or remind me of something I may be forgetting. Also...what kind of pain reliever/anti-inflamatory is best for the day? I know I've heard some are better then others for the long day but can't for the life of me remember. Thanks so much! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() There was an article posted in Runner's World last month called: "Say "ahhh." (runner's use of pain killers)" I believe the advice was Tylenol (don't exceed dosage) or Aleve but I might be wrong. I was surprised when they said that Ibuprofen can apparently cause problems - but I can't remember what... (I'm a lot of help...) I've always used Ibuprofen/Motrin and stayed away from Tylenol ... I can't find my magazine right now - I must have lent it to someone ... http://www.runnersworld.com/community/forums/index.jsp?plckForumPage=ForumDiscussion&plckDiscussionId=Cat%3ARunner+CommunitiesForum%3A960108738Discussion%3A5451010442 Edited by Silver_wlf 2009-06-24 4:26 PM |

Not a Coach ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I never used either, but: Bike bag - a few spare gels and an extra tube Run bag - a few spare gels and a long sleeve shirt I don't think it's a good idea to use any pain reliever/AI during the day. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Bike- I packed extra nutrition. Specifically, I put in some more servings of my Infinit mix. And it probably saved me that day. I couldn't take in the solid/gel nutrition I had planned and I needed extra. Run- I packed another pair of socks. And I used them. I also carried a travel sized body glide on me. At mile 6 I felt a blister coming on... put it on my feet and never got a blister. I dreaded the idea of hobbling in on blisters. I really hate the pain from blisters. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I like to have stuff on hand just in case. I will agree with the poster above, that people overthink these things, but were triathletes ... thats what we do! The main thing I found out on race day is that you need to be prepared for what is going to sit well on your stomach. Just because you trained with a specific nutrition plan, doesnt mean your GI or your taste buds are going to cooperate. In my Special Needs bags I put things that I might want in there, but nothing I absolutely needed ... well other than my extra bottles of Infinit. Put some extra goodies in there that might give you a pick me up ... something to get that taste of Gatorade and Powerbars out of your mouth. Gum, candy, oatmeal cream pies (my fav), starburst, mints, snickers stuff like that. The extra socks, long sleeve, body glide is all at your discretion. In my Transition bags, and SN for that matter, I found it very helpful to write a checklist of whats in there and refer to that once you open it up. Your brain is going to play some major tricks on you and all of that planning can go out the window in an instant if you head of out of transition without something. I popped advil on the course before the bike and the run, but do this at your own risk. It works for me ... Bike Bag Advil Bag Balm Garmin Gloves Helmet HRM Strap Race Number Shades Shoes Shorts Towel Bike SN 3x 1hr Infinit V8 SNACKS (Oatmeal cream pie, fig newtons) Run Bag 2x 2hr Infinit Body Glide Candy Effexor Fuel Belt Garmin Shoes SNACKS Socks V8 Visor Run SN 2x 2hr Infinit V8 SNACKS T1 Checklist (In the order I used each item) Towel Garmin Bag Balm Advil Gloves HRM Strap Race Number Shades Shorts Sun Screen Bathroom Helmet Shoes T2 Garmin Medicine Socks Body Glide (Having this out of order caused me a few seconds to take the socks back off and apply the body glide) Shoes 2x 2hr Infinit Fuel Belt Visor Sun Screen SNACKS Candy V8
