Hey everyone...just wondering if you guys belong to any Tri clubs in the valley...I've been looking into joining one...thought about the Scottsdale one but the workouts/rides are far from my house so looking into the Landis Tri club...anyone a part of that one?

Your two cents is welcome! Thanks!

I posted this is the Gear/Review section on accident woops.

I am a member of East Side Cool Kids Tri Club (ESCKTC), but any group that motivates you to get out there and will have your back on race day as well as is full of people that you can have fun with will work.  I happen to live in the west valley (by Lake Pleasant) but we have members across Arizona and I seem to find time for group functions on occasion.

However, that said I am not familiar with any Scottsdale clubs.

There is Tri-Scottsdale.

http://www.triscottsdale.org/

No experience one way or the other with them.

2 years ago I went on a few rides with Phoenix Tri Club. They were a nice bunch, and they post a workout calendar pretty far in advance. Have a look and see if these workouts fit your schedule:

Currently work out with and sport the colors of ESCKTC (East Side Cool Kids), which is...well, pretty much most people on this board!

There is tri-scottsdale, phoenix tri, landis, gage, first wave, tribe just off the top of my head. Durapulse, but I think that's only the coached athletes and sponsored. Tribe is pretty grass roots and fairly friendly, first wave is pretty good group of guys, my only interaction with the landis tri club was a few years ago and they struck me as somewhat snobbish, but again, that was a while ago.

I am with Landis. There are several rides/runs each week. There is spin class at Landis on Warner/Rural every Tuesday night. Very popular and it is free. The weekend rides/runs leave either from the Landis shop or the marina at Tempe Town Lake. This is a supportive group and all new members are assigned a mentor if they want someone. We are a very friendly group and are all levels of triathlete - and we get great support from Landis and Sole Sports.

I do Triathlons with AZ Tri Club... basically a free training group.
http://www.aztriclub.com
Email [email protected] to get on the training mailing list.

I do bike races with Tribe Racing....

Tribe has:
Tuesday run
Wednesday Night Mountain Bike (No drop policy)
Thursday Night Ride (10 mile loop 1-3 times)
Saturday Morning ride

Saturday ride is 44 miles and leaves at 5:30am
Night rides leave at 7:10pm (lights recommended... Scottsdale police will ticket non-lighted rides)

http://www.tribemultisport.com

They also have good updates on their Facebook page.

And have done some rides with ESCKTC... which is another free training group of people from this site.

On the West Siiiiide you've got First Wave Tri, which I'm a member. Lot's of workouts each week to choose from.
There is also Tri Revolution down in the Estrella/Goodyear area. Their coach has been deported, but I think they still train. Perhaps Sally can give us more details on them.

I live in Tempe and work in Glendale. I claim East Side Cool Kids as my tri-club, met a lot of great people, and have been inspired to really ramp up my training and performance.

But I've also participated in some First Wave Tri OWS workouts at Lake Pleasant, and everyone I've met there has been super friendly. They also reiterated at last night's OWS that anyone is welcome to join their workouts at any time. Workouts are posted at http://www.firstwavetri.com/

I am an ESCKTC member from the wild west!  However, i alos like rides from non-commit types of which there are plenty of out here.

In addition to clubs I should mention that the race director of Tri-Family racing also teaches a tri training class at Glendale Community College and almost all of those folks are approachable for training (I took this class as well as a few other here) - I believe that 1st Wave is a club that started as members of that class about a decade ago!

I'm with East Side Cool kids. But don't hold that against them. They didn't know how bad I was before I joined.

Thanks for all the great info everyone...I'll probably go with Landis but maybe do the rides at night with Tribe...has anyone done the rides at night? i'm kind of hesitant riding in the dark (i know there's lights and all and I will have a light too on my bike of course) i've just never done it...or maybe its safer in a group. Also can you ride in the aero position when you are doing group rides with a tri-club or is aero just out of the question for all rides...or maybe that's just a cycling group thing. Thanks again!

on the Thursday night tribe rides, you can ride aero.

The majority of the riders there are triathletes and almost all the passing, etc is done just like in a race... on your left.

Some people just use blinkers.

There are a plethora of speeds so there is always someone to ride with and/or someone faster than you to chase if that is what you are looking for was well.

Most triathletes don't even have the option of riding a bike without aero bars. I have been in a cycling club and a tri club. My cycling club would never allow aero bars in their midst, but most tri teams don't mind.

Having said that...You need to check with that specific club. Everyone has their own rules.

Good luck in your training.

Check out First Wave Tri's Friday morning ride. It's no drop and tri bikes are beyond welcome.

I've been doing research on tri clubs and found this thread.  Is there a Woman's tri club in the Phoenix metro area?  I saw the Tucson club.  I'm a newbie Athena and I'm a little intimated to join some of these more organized clubs.  (I guess I"m not too new anymore)  I'm gearing up for IMAZ and need some help with motivation and training.  I thought a woman's club might be less scary.

The Phx Tri club have a great New2Tri program. It's co-ed but from what i hear it is very friendly and not just for complete beginners. Info is on their website

I know the race has passed, but I had a friend do all the clinics etc before Tri For The Cure that were put on by Tri Scottsdale, she said the all female program was great.

I dont think you should be intimidated by the guys. If you find a club in your area with rides etc that match your schedule, I say go for it
